My Mother is the reason I am where I am in my life. She is the reason I have such an amazing wife, the reason I understand how important family is, the reason I know words and actions matter, the reason I am a teacher, and the reason I coach girls volleyball. More importantly she is the reason I am who I am. My mom was by far the biggest and most positive influence in my life. She was the strongest and most humble person I will ever know. She will live on in so many people because of the impact she made. I will do my best to make sure that impact continues.

I am so grateful I got to call her Mom by @hgraack

Several times during the weekend the topic of sports being important to much more than just the sport itself came up. I cant really think of a better way to credit this team. They had some great wins this season, but so much of the season was more than that. It has been a pretty difficult time in my life for several reasons. I could not be more grateful to have had this team during this time in my life. They are talented players, but brought so much more to my life than just volleyball. Thank you for giving me something to look forward during times when I didnt really have much to look forward to. I looked forward to every single practice, tournament, and interaction no matter how volleyball was going. Whether it was doing something ridiculous, having a witty response to a stupid comment I made, engaging in a difficult conversation with an open mind, or just getting to spend time together, I will always appreciate our short time together more than you know. Today is 20 years with the love of my life. We didn't get to spend any time together today, unfortunately, but last night got to recreate our 1st ever date (hibachi) on the 20th anniversary of our first date. We have been through a lot together. We have changed a lot over the years (as you can see 😂). The best parts have always stayed the same though, love and support for each other. Looking forward to the next 20 ❤️ by @hgraack

5 years ago, when covid started, I decided to grow my hair out to donate. Yesterday, @calsangels @pollyannabrewingcompany and @mderrico26 worked together to make a great fundraiser for pediatric cancer and made it happen. Not only did I get to donate my hair, but thanks to SO many people, raised over $1700 for pediatric cancer, too! It was a really fun event, and the weather was perfect. I appreciate all the support, especially from the friends that came out and @ohhibeer for dealing with me (and my drastic choices in haircuts, or lack thereof). by @hgraack

2024 was a great year. So much so that it wouldn't let me tag all the great people I got to spend it with. I suck at remembering to take pictures, but some of my favorite memories of 2024 that I did catch. Forever grateful for what I do and who I get to do it with. by @hgraack

I never post for my Dad's birthday because he doesn't do social media, but... He has talked about going to Canada to fish since I was little. He still had never gone. Last year, Zach had the idea to take him for his birthday. He told him last year we were going for his birthday next year. He talked about it all year, and last Saturday, it became a reality. @zgraack put together an unbelievable fishing trip to Canada for my Dad's 70th birthday. The fishing was incredible, we ate fresh fish every night, were on a beautiful lake every day, and even got to see some wildlife while fishing. Like I said, he doesn't do social media, so if you know him, give the hardest working person I know a call on our ride back for his birthday and give him a chance to brag about how many fish he caught, especially his 38 inch muskie off a jig pole! taken in Lake of the Woods, Ontario by @hgraack

Whambambo back in action for the 1st time at nationals since 2016, and it didn't disappoint. 9th out of 58, a lot of trash talking, smelling salts, and old person volleyball with the best people.

What a season for 18 Apex.

Started the year 8-0 at windy city qualifier to get a liberty bid.

4th overall in 17/18 open windy city power league

3rd at mid east qualifier, barely squeaking out a 20-18 3rd set quarter final after being down 10-14 to get a USA bid.

5-3 in 18 open at under armor championships (even beating a team in two that qualified and finished in the top half of 18 open at nationals)

5th in USA division at 18s Nationals, after being 1 point from not even qualifying in that division.

It wasn't easy, especially early in the season when we were raising the bar and trying to play a different style of volleyball. Some really tough weeks after The Presidents Day tournament. The girls came out the other side of it stronger than they were before. After that, they were ALWAYS the more aggressive team no matter who we were playing. Serve harder, swing at everything, take risks, and no regrets, only adjustments.

The success at the end of the season wouldn't have been possible without the mindset that they had. This is a special team that constantly raised the bar and didn't use excuses, even when they had one. Missing 3 teammates for nationals and the goal never changed, no excuses they just wanted to get after it. Two girls added to the team right before nationals, and you'd have thought they played with us all year because the girls were such great teammates.

5th place in a division they'd never qualified in, without 3 of their teammates says it all. I am so proud of them for trusting the process and never settling for good enough. Thank you 18 Apex for one hell of a season. Looking forward to seeing all your future successes.
