As we continue sharing knowledge collected through Live Archive’s Public Programme, we would like to highlight a few key points from the methodologies of the Sudanahye x HiHaleb projects.
•
On August 6, LFA hosted the third public event of Live Archive, presented by the founders of the Sudanahye and HiHaleb platforms, Vahe Boghosian and Houry Pilibbossian, titled “Preserve for Whom?”. During the event, they discussed their journeys, methodologies, and personal experiences of collecting and preserving archival materials, followed by a Q&A.
•
Sudanahye and HiHaleb are projects that aim to collect and preserve the archives of Sudanese and Aleppo Armenian communities, documenting their histories, everyday lives, experiences, and cultural heritage.
•
More information about the projects is available on the Live Archive platform.

August 6th was a special night - sudanahye’s first event in Armenia and first collaboration with @hi.haleb hosted by @l.f.a_am .

Myself and @houry03 presented on the archival methods of our respective projects, while focusing on the question of ‘Preserve for Whom’ in the Armenian Diaspora archiving space.

A massive thanks to everyone who came and to @l.f.a_am for hosting.

The night wasn’t just special because it was our first event in Armenia, or because it was an event in the Western Armenian language in Yerevan, or even because of the diverse set of attendees who engaged and asked challenging questions.

Once again I find that the most special element of these events is not the event itself. Whether it be the coffee with @houry03 where the idea was first thought of, the brainstorming sessions with @l.f.a_am which refined the scope, the chats that took place after the event about these topics, or the bonds established and friendships made throughout the whole process.

What made this and our other events special are people, conversations and new friendships. Bonds which make me sure this won’t be the last event we have in Yerevan (or in Western Armenian ;) )

Continuing the Live Archive public program, on Thursday, August 6, at 20:00, LFA will host a lecture titled “Preserve for Whom” with HiHaleb x Sudanahye.
•
Hi Haleb, is a digital community archive that attempts to centralize, digitize, document and curate the everyday life of Aleppo – Armenians; through oral histories, GIS mapping and digital photo archives this archive seeks to co-construct Aleppo-Armenians’ collective memory written by the people for the people.
•
Sudanahye is the Sudanese-Armenian Heritage Project, a multimedia research project documenting the history of the Sudanese-Armenian community. The project is establishing an oral history and photographic archive to document the history of the community and preserve the heritage and culture of the Sudanese Armenian community.
•
The event will bring together both projects to present their archival practices through a case study of a shared spatial element. A moderated Q&A will place the two approaches in dialogue, opening broader questions about archiving, memory, and community.
•
Language: Western Armenian
Free entrance. Registration required. Link in bio.
