I had a super fun time recording at @mps_recording . I recorded drums for @glitter_etiquette . I’m super grateful to the guys at the recording studio for the amazing time, and I had the opportunity to bring my Sonor Designer series drum kit with all my Paiste cymbals and 60s/70s/80s/90s era Sonor hardware, which I am also beyond grateful for. Videos of the session coming soon… 🥁🥁🥁.

The caption on the other pics has a list of what I was using.

THANK YOU to @mps_recording , @poppe.mp3 , and @loganpollakmusic !!!!!! You gave me a memory that I’m sure I’ll remember for a very long time. I am grateful beyond what words can describe, but thank you so much!

Thank you also to my mom for letting me bring these huge drums in and out of the apartment 😅. Thank you to @free.paintings for driving the band to and back, and thank you to @claysmell for driving me to the studio! I appreciate all of you!

I also bought all of my Sonor Signature Horst Link stands and Sonor Phonic Counterweight cymbal stands. All my cymbals were Paiste, and all my drums and hardware were Sonor!! It is my dream come true to use my favorite drum gear from my absolute favorite drum companies!

I love Sonor drums!
I love Paiste cymbals!

The studio was super awesome, the room was huge, and the staff there are miles beyond friendly. I recommend them 2000%

Showcase of all the Sonor Horst Link Signature Series snare drums that I currently own. All 3 of the drums in this post can tell such great stories. I feel so so lucky to be able to own these 3 snare drums. The last slide has a short video of how each drum sounds with the current tuning it’s at. All sounds awesome in my opinion.

The snare drum in the middle is made out of brass that is super shiny and beautiful. With “Hella” snare drum hoops, and those tune-safe rubber grips to stop the drum from de-tuning. Super awesome.

The 2 snare drums on either side are made out of 12 plies of 12mm Beechwood with inner and outer plies of absolutely gorgeous African Bubinga. These drums are also super photogenic and beyond heavy-duty. The snare drums on the side have parallel-strainers and snap-lock tension rods to prevent it from de-tuning. Genius level of attention to detail. These 2 drums are the first drums I’ve ever owned with parallel-strainers, I still don’t fully know how they work. Fun to learn!!

The snare drum all the way to the left in the first picture was rescued from a flood, and beautifully restored by @vintagefmdrums . He did an incredibly awesome job on that snare and took such great care of it. It looks gorgeous. He restores many other drums as well! Check out his page!

The snare drum in the middle was beautifully well kept over the years. That brass still shines like brand new!

The snare drum all the way to the right was toured throughout Europe before I got it.

Snare Drums (Left to Right):
- Sonor HLD-580 Horst Link Signature Series 14” x 8” 12-lug African Bubinga
- Sonor SY-1405 Horst Link Signature Series 14” x 5” 10-lug
- Sonor HLD-580 Horst Link Signature Series 14” x 8” 12-lug African Bubinga

- 3x Sonor Horst Link Signature Series snare drum stands
(^ I’m convinced these are the heaviest and greatest model of snare stands ever made)

I love looking at those heavy beech, Bubinga in/out drum shells. These drums are the perfect representation of the 80s where pretty much all drum kits started getting massive, which I love. Stuff like a 14” x 14” rack tom, or an 18” x 19” floor tom! is just so nice to me. These drums are also extremely well built with such great attention to detail

Also I could be wrong on this, but I’m pretty sure these drums were made with Bubinga before it became an “at-risk” species. Which is why I think now companies make a “Bubinga Replica Veneer”.

I’m also telling myself that I’m posting these bc I need to clear some storage from my phone. I’m sure my phone storage is fine I think I just wanted to post this LOL. 😆 The first and second picture were taken about a year apart I think? by @hi.imkensho

Sonor! Not selling these, just showcasing!! Today I just finished re-tuning these 3 Sonor snare drums to use for some shows coming up! The snare all the way on the left is the first snare drum I ever bought too, I have a very special place in my heart for that drum.

Drums: (L to R) - all 10-lug snares!
- Sonor 14” x 5” Phil Rudd Signature Snare Drum C.O.B. (SSD-11-1405 PR)
- Sonor 14” x 5” Horst Link Signature Snare Drum Brass (SY-1405)
- Sonor 14” x 5” Phil Rudd Signature Snare Drum
C.O.B. (SSD-11-1405 PR)

Snare Stands: (L to R)
- Sonor 600 Series
- Sonor Horst Link Signature Series
- Sonor 600 Series

Probably the loudest snare drums I currently own, I love all 3 of them they sound so aggressive and powerful and “in your face” but also can be super versatile and sensitive snares when you need them to be.

Another thing I love about the 2 Phil Rudd signature snares, it has a tune-safe system inside the lugs to keep it from going out of tune and the Horst Link signature snare has those tune-safe rubbers on the top and bottom of the lugs. (That tune-safe idea is absolutely GENIUS by the way!)

The 2 Phil Rudd snares have die-cast hoops, and the Horst Link Signature snare has the Hella hoops with the super rare snare gates! Super heavy duty and I love the look of it.

The 2 Phil Rudd snares have square headed tension rods and the Horst Link Signature snare has slotted tension rods. I’m honestly not sure which one of the tension rod shapes I like better, I’m maybe leaning a little bit towards slotted, but I do like collecting those Sonor vintage slotted drum keys! That part is really fun for me

I’m super excited to use these for some shows I have coming up!! An added really cool part is that these snares are all really heavy, like I think at least 15 pounds each. I have a feeling the Phil Rudd snares are at least a little heavier? But I’m not sure, I don’t have a scale 😁

Also the snare stands I think weigh close to 10 pounds each, which I love bc then I don’t have to worry about it moving or wobbling on me! taken in Brooklyn, New York by @hi.imkensho

Last one of my AC/DC drum covers... for now haha. "Gimme a Bullet" by AC/DC. Super awesome song I think it's one of my favorite off of Powerage. That outro is such a jam I love it. Messed up that last fill. by @hi.imkensho

Drum cover of "Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be" by AC/DC. I'm not the proudest of this one, my timing is actually so sloppy here, but track my progress as much as I track my accomplishments right? It is a very fun song to play though if I get the feel right. by @hi.imkensho

Another drum cover of "Up to My Neck in You" by AC/DC. I'm really loving their album "Powerage" right now.

Playing drums during the guitar solo always feels amazing it's such a fun song. I have rly bad timing issues here. Also messed up the count-off, but whatever it was fun.

I feel like posting about mistakes/making progress is just as important as posting about accomplishments I guess. by @hi.imkensho

Snare showcase again! 😁

The Ludwig Supralite and Ludwig Supraphonic standing side by side. Both super iconic snare drums and mounted on what is (in my opinion) the best snare drum stand model in the world. 2 SONOR Horst Link Signature Series Snare Stands from the 1980s.

I’ve never owned a Supraphonic or a Supralite before so it was super cool to take them apart and to see how they were put together. As I’m posting this I’m actually about to sell the Supraphonic so I wanted to get these pictures and this post out before I did.

Drums:
14” x 5.5” Ludwig Supralite (10-lug design)
14” x 5” Ludwig Supraphonic (10-lug design)

Pretty sure the Supralite is a Chrome Over Steel shell and the Supraphonic is a Chrome Over Brass “Ludaloy” shell from the 1970s because of the Sharp-Pointed Ludwig Olive Badge by @hi.imkensho
