Combat Conversations: @camilareynosook fights tonight on Dana White’s Contender Series, and she’s carrying more than just her own name into that cage.

One of Argentina’s top-ranked prospects, Reynoso told us what pulled her into fighting in the first place, why her forward-pressure style is so hard to deal with, where the “Buttercup” nickname actually came from, and what she wants the world to know about her before she steps in tonight.

Combat Conversations Q&A: @badmattadams

I sat down with him ahead of the biggest fight of his career, and he didn’t hold back. From picking up wrestling at 17 to national champion by 19, what six years in this sport have actually taught him about himself, and what’s really driving him now versus what got him started. He opens up on why the finish has always mattered more to him than the decision, and exactly what he wants people to know about him heading into DWCS.

“Bad” Matt Adams fights Tuesday, August 11th on Dana White’s Contender Series.

He wasn’t supposed to be an athlete. Now he’s on the verge of being a UFC one.

@jonkunneman was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes on his 11th birthday, blood sugar over 500, an ER visit instead of a party. Doctors told him pro sports were off the table. He’d already watched his grandfather slowly lose his health to the same disease, so he knew exactly what he was being warned about.

He didn’t listen. Now he takes multiple insulin shots a day just to compete, and has climbed all 58 of Colorado’s 14,000-foot peaks, diabetes and all. In December 2024 a miscounted carb packet sent his blood sugar into free fall mid-climb. He got down. Then went back to training.

That same refusal to quit shows up every time he steps in the cage. 10-0. Every win a finish. Nine of them before the first round even ended. He’s not looking to win rounds, he’s looking to end nights. Heavy hands, relentless pace, and grappling that closes the door if the strikes don’t. Training daily at 9,400 feet in Colorado with @elevationfightteamco , sharing the room with ELITE fighters like former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje, will sharpen that instinct fast.

Tuesday August 11th, Dana White’s Contender Series. One fight between him and the UFC.

Inside The Guard, Vol. 1.

Theo Haig (@theohaig) is 7-1 training at @americankickboxingacademy and @roots.unioncity , training alongside some of the best fighters and coaches on the planet. That is not why this story exists.

I sat down with Theo to talk about what came before any of that. By his own account, he never expected to see 25. What changed everything wasn’t a rock bottom or an intervention, it was a look on his mother’s face he could never unsee.

What he built in the years after is the real story. A black belt. Seven submission wins. A daily seat among the best in the world. And major promotions calling his name.

This is only half the story. The rest is on Substack. Link in bio.

Unfiltered. Unscripted. Inside The Guard.

The call is coming. Get familiar now, because everyone else is about to.

“I hope to become a great champion, help my family, carry the name of my city and create opportunities for those who dream of the sport in Mossoró.” — @nataliaalvesmma

She said that in an interview with É Notícia Mossoró, her hometown news outlet. Natalia Alves grew up in Mossoró, Northeast Brazil. Started jiu jitsu at 14 in a local social project, her brother Celimar introduced her to the mat. Her hero was Claudia Gadelha, another fighter from Mossoró who made it to the top of the world.

National level wrestling. Jiu jitsu black belt under Felipe Bezerra. She trains at The Fighting Nerds in São Paulo alongside multiple UFC Veterans. Bruna Brasil named her specifically on UFC.com — “She’s coming up strong and she’s got the wrestling too. She’s always made me evolve.”

Now she’s on TUF 34 — Team Cormier vs Team Bisping — on Paramount+. The whole world is about to meet her. We just wanted to introduce her first.

8-0. 25 years old. Pay attention.

Ela sempre me fez evoluir.”

Agora ela está no TUF 34 — Team Cormier vs Team Bisping — no Paramount+. O mundo inteiro está prestes a conhecê-la. A gente só queria apresentar ela primeiro.

8-0. 25 anos. Fique de olho.

The walk to the octagon happens at every single fight. Thousands of people in the building. Millions watching at home. And nobody ever stops to ask what’s actually going through a fighter’s mind in those steps.

That’s the question I brought to @karine_killer_ufc , @treseangore , and @alicepereiraufc . One question. Three fighters. Three answers that couldn’t be more different from each other, and every single one of them tells you something real about what this sport actually looks like from the inside.

This is what High Guard is about. Not the highlights. Not the hot takes. The stuff that lives underneath all of that — the perspectives, the mindset, the human side of combat sports that doesn’t get airtime anywhere else.

Let me introduce you to @aiezabertolso_mma

She grew up in Alto Taquari, a small town in the heart of Brazil — watching Cris Cyborg, Amanda Nunes, Ronda Rousey, and Jessica Andrade on YouTube as a kid. She didn’t just admire them. She decided she was going to be like them. At 17 she moved to Rio de Janeiro alone to make that happen.

Two time IMMAF Amateur World Champion before she ever turned professional. The highest level of amateur MMA competition in the entire world. Twice.

7-0 as a pro. 21 fight win streak overall. LFA Strawweight Champion. 24 years old. Undefeated. The best is nowhere near here yet.

She is the one.

Duas vezes.

7-0 como profissional. 21 lutas de invencibilidade. Campeã Peso-Palha do LFA. 24 anos. Invicta. O melhor ainda nem chegou perto.

Ela é a escolhida.
