Nikkie Samreth, non-binary Cambodian-Chinese American. @highblush works as a dancer/choreographer. They found the project through a referral (thanks @oliviaraecutme!) and I’m excited they did.
.
In our talks on creative for the shoot, Nikkie sent a mood board called Cyber/Ethereal/Surreal which started a conversation that ended with gels to evoke the light from neon signs and giant screens in a bit of an homage to Zhora and Blade Runner. Hugest of thanks to @jodyformica for the incredible hair, makeup and crystal work!
.
I also wanted to be sure each person had an opportunity to speak along with their portrait, so please swipe to see Nikkie talk about how it feels to be non-binary in this moment (the whole video is available in my next post/reel since IG only shows the first minute in mixed media posts.) And because some of these portraits may be more abstract/artistic than focused on seeing the person, I wanted to make sure I had a simple classical portrait of each person so everyone can see their beauty. So be sure to swipe to see that portrait as well. If you are trans or non-binary and interested in participating in this project, please reach out.
