POSTS STORIES REELS

A little late posting this, two weeks later… but still so proud!

1st out of 64 teams at Rep It Out!

So proud of what Faith and I achieved together. Grateful for her pushing me, backing me and being someone I love sharing the competition floor with. What a day ❤️

On to the next one 💪 by @highercouk

With my 9-5 job coming to an end, I’m trying to work out what I actually want next. And scrolling through Instagram, seeing everyone else seemingly moving forward, can make me feel like I should have figured it out already. Fecking Instagram!!!

So this question stayed with me: if Instagram disappeared tomorrow, what would I still choose?

I’d still train, travel, teach and coach. I’d still want good people around me and work that means something to me.

That helps me think about my next step. What would make me happy day to day, even if I never posted about it?

A question for myself, too: who are you when there’s nobody to impress? by @highercouk

I was going to post a picture of my boobs, but I’m trying to find my people and that might confuse the search a bit 😂 So you’re getting a few thoughts instead. For the three of you who actually read my captions, this one’s for you!

A client asked me today how muscles grow. You can put the work in, but you still need to give your body a chance to recover and adapt. You break it and build it back up stronger right? It got me thinking about how we deal with change outside the gym…

I’ve had a few things happen recently that made me question people, who I trust, and my own judgement. And honestly, when you’re already trying to work out what comes next, that can leave you feeling a bit all over the place.

In the gym, we understand that adapting takes time. We adjust the training, look at recovery, and give ourselves the support we need. Outside it, I sometimes expect myself to just get on with everything and somehow come out stronger.

But having a difficult time doesn’t automatically make you grow. What you do afterwards matters. Who you let close to you matters. You can’t keep going back to something that knocks your confidence and expect rebuilding it to be easy.

Sometimes a plan falls apart and, once you’ve got over trying to force it back together, you realise you’d do a few things differently anyway. You start being more honest about where you’re happy, where you feel valued, and where you’ve been doing far too much trying.

That might mean letting a few people go. It might mean being brave enough to meet new ones, or appreciating the ones who’ve been there all along.

I’m starting to feel that now. Enjoying conversations, seeing new possibilities, spending time with people I’m bloody glad to know. It’s making me realise how much energy I’d been spending questioning myself!!!

I still want to push myself. I’ve got plenty I want to do. But I want to do it around people who make me feel comfortable being myself, and who are as pleased to see me grow as I am to see them grow.

So if you’re figuring a few things out too, maybe…Find somewhere you can grow. Find people you’re glad to have beside you.

Two hours putting a post together because I’m crap at editing 😂 Choosing the words, making it look fancy, explaining what I do as a coach and educator. 39 likes. And yes, I was fucking frustrated 😂

But then I had to check myself too…Why was I letting that number decide whether the work was valuable? Likes tell you how many people liked a post. They don’t tell you how well someone coaches, how much their students learn or whether their clients feel stronger and more confident.

We give those numbers far too much power!!!

And this is part of why I created the education side of HIGHER. I want to develop coaches who give a shit about the people they work with.

Have the pretty gym wear. Post your face. Enjoy it. But what’s your purpose as a coach? Helping people progress, or making every session another opportunity to promote yourself?
YOUR CLIENTS deserve your attention, knowledge and effort. And their progress matters whether they want to appear on your page or never be filmed at all.

Train with me and we work towards strength, fitness and confidence. Learn with me and you’re expected to understand what you’re doing, why you’re doing it and how to adapt it to the person in front of you.

Because becoming a coach means taking responsibility for more than your own image!

If you want to help people and change lives, your ambition has to go beyond the fu@king likes. That’s the kind of coach I want to teach and that’s the kind of coach I AM.

1st place yesterday with @highercouk at @crossfittamworth 🏆🔥

We go again at Rep It Out in 3 weeks 👀⏳

A little reminder that your coach is a human too.

I know you pay us to turn up, smile, motivate you and give you our attention. And you absolutely should expect us to care about the job we do. I care so much about my clients, and now that I’m teaching coaches as well, I want them to understand how much trust people put in us.

But becoming a coach doesn’t mean you stop having your own life going on in the background. Your coach might have lost their job. They might be going through a breakup, struggling with their health, feeling lonely, or missing their family. And then they walk into your session, put a brave face on and give you everything they’ve got.

I can say this because that’s a bit where I am right now. I’ve lost my full-time job. I’m trying to build my business. I’m trying to train, compete and be the best I can physically. I’m trying to be a good partner and keep in touch with my family, who are so far away. And honestly, some days I just want to go home to my mum and say…I’m tired. Can you cook me something and look after me for a bit? But I can’t just pop round. So I keep going.

I’m grateful for my life, and I know things could be worse. But I’m also stressed to hell and tired, and I don’t want to pretend otherwise.

I think this goes beyond coaching, really. If you’re the person who is always there for everyone, always checking in, always sorting things out, always giving a bit more of yourself… you’re allowed to need someone to hold you tight sometimes. I definitely do.

So whether you’re a coach or a client, please be kind to each other. You really don’t know what someone is carrying when they walk through the door. Nobody’s invincible. Even the ones who look like they’ve got it all together.

And yes, some people are just dickheads. Let’s try not to be one of them. by @highercouk

This should simply have been a post celebrating what Cal achieved. I’ve gone back and forth about saying anything, but I’m devastated by how his first backyard ultra ended.

Cal arrived as the underdog, without a big team, just him and me, and kept running for 29 hours. We gave everything to this event.

I stayed beside him without sleep, preparing his food and hydration, looking after his feet, changing his clothes and getting him back to the start line every hour. His friends came along to keep our spirits up. We put our hearts and souls into it. Then, at the very end, it was taken away without a warning, conversation or opportunity to correct anything.

A few of us briefly ran on the grass near Cal, shouting encouragement. It was support, not pacing. Nobody set his speed, physically assisted him or gave him anything during the yard.

I’ve spent more than a decade in sport as an athlete and coach, and I’ve never experienced a decision of this importance being handled this way. Rules matter, but they must be clearly communicated and applied consistently to EVERYONE. And they weren’t. Full stop.

We saw the same kind of support throughout the event without intervention. If you don’t come from a BYU background, how would you know that briefly moving alongside an athlete while encouraging them could end their race, especially when nothing was clearly explained to spectators themselves?

Applying the strictest interpretation to one athlete at the very end, after allowing the same behaviour around others, is inconsistent. Sport should be built on fairness and equal treatment, not double standards.

This takes nothing away from the other athletes. Their performances were extraordinary, and we genuinely rooted for them too!

I’ll always regret that our encouragement became part of how this ended. It feels like Cal was robbed of the opportunity to discover how far he could go. The official result may stand. Our disappointment in how it was handled will also stand. But nobody can take away his 29 yards, his strength or how unbelievably proud I am of him.

Cal, you mean the world to me. You deserved to finish this race on your own terms, and I’ll always be beside you 💜 by @highercouk

You’ve got your PT qualification… now what? 😏

This is actually one of the biggest reasons I started HIGHER.

I’ve spent years coaching and working in education, and I’ve seen so many people get qualified and then think, “Okay… but how do I actually become a good coach?”

That’s where this comes in. I’ve created the HIGHER Coach Development Programme for already qualified coaches who want MORE…more knowledge, more confidence, more practical experience and someone in their corner to actually help them develop.

And it’s not a set course where I’m going to make you learn Olympic lifting because I love Olympic lifting 😂

We build it around YOU. What you already know, where you feel less confident, who you want to coach and where you want to go with it.

Practical coaching. Mentoring. Development. Networking. And access to other great coaches along the way.

You’ve already invested in getting qualified. Now invest in yourself as a coach.

Drop me a message if this sounds like something you need 💜

Coaching people wasn’t enough for me… so now I’m coaching the coaches too 😂

HIGHER has grown up a little!

When I started the business, it was mainly about personal training, programming and helping people become stronger. And no, I’m not disappearing into an office wearing a suit. I’m still coaching, still lifting, still competing and still sending my clients programmes they occasionally swear at me for 😂

But coaching is only one part of who I am.

I’ve worked in education for years, first as a tutor and then as a curriculum manager. I’ve taught students, developed programmes and supported people through their qualifications and into the real world.

I’ve seen what works. I’ve also seen what doesn’t. And I know what needs to change.

Too many people finish a course with a certificate but still don’t feel confident walking into a gym and actually coaching someone. There can be a huge gap between learning the theory and knowing how to use it with a real human being standing in front of you.

That’s the gap I want HIGHER to help close.

So eventually I thought: why am I keeping these two parts of my life separate?

And that’s how HIGHER became one business with two sides:

HIGHER Coaching
Helping people become stronger, more confident and capable through personal training and online programming.

HIGHER Education
Helping people become qualified, confident coaches who actually know how to coach, not just people who passed a course and received a certificate.

I genuinely love both.

I love seeing someone do something they never believed they could do. Whether that’s lifting a weight, changing their life or standing in front of their first client and realising, “Bloody hell, I’m actually a coach.”

So this is me reintroducing HIGHER.

Still coaching people.
Now developing coaches too.
Still me, just with even more work to do 😂💜

Welcome to the next chapter!

There are some people who come into your life and you just know, from the very first time you meet them, that they’re going to be important. Szilvia was one of those people ❤️

We met studying for our Masters and I knew straight away we’d be friends. I just didn’t realise then what an influential and important role she would go on to play in my life.

Stoke on Strength was born from Szilvia’s desire to bring people together, to connect people, share knowledge, celebrate each other and create a stronger local community. And I feel so lucky that I got to bring that idea to life alongside her.

But more than that, I’m incredibly grateful to have her as a friend. In a world that can sometimes feel very self-focused, having someone who genuinely shows up, supports you, believes in you and would do anything for you means more than I can put into words.

Thank you for coming into my life, Szilvia. I’m so proud of what we created together, and even more grateful for the friendship behind it ❤️

Here’s to the beginning of something very special.

We did it. 🥹 The very first Stoke on Strength is officially done… and what an evening it was!

When Nina and I started talking about this idea, the vision was actually very simple: get good people in the same room. Bring together businesses, coaches, athletes, therapists, organisations and our local community, not to compete with each other, but to connect, share what we know and see what could happen when we actually work together. And on Saturday, that room was FULL.

To every presenter who stood up and shared their story, knowledge and passion, thank you.

To every business and exhibitor who trusted our little idea and came to showcase what you do, thank you.

To everyone who helped behind the scenes, promoted the event, brought something to the evening or supported us in making it happen, thank you.

And to every single person who simply turned up, listened, asked questions, visited the stands, met someone new, stayed for the party and brought such incredible energy into the room…you are the reason the event worked.

For a first event, we genuinely couldn’t have asked for much more. But this was only the beginning.

We’ve learned a lot from our first Stoke on Strength, we have plenty of ideas already, and there is SO much more we want to build from here.

So please follow our journey, stay connected and keep supporting the businesses and people you discovered through the event.

Because if Saturday showed us anything, it’s that there are some bloody brilliant people doing brilliant things around Stoke-on-Trent. Sometimes we just need someone to put us all in the same room. 😉❤️

Thank you for believing in our idea.

Thank you for showing up.

And thank you for making the first Stoke on Strength something we’ll never forget.

We’ll see you at the next one!

Connect. Collaborate. Grow. by @highercouk

It was so lovely to see Clover yesterday at HopLab when Szilvia and I met to finalise the last details for Stoke on Strength.

I’m really looking forward to hearing Clover speak about “When wellbeing becomes another thing on the to-do list.” I think it’s a topic so many of us will relate to!

Clover and I have known each other for 28 years, since we met studying our undergraduate Sports Science degree.

Back then, we had absolutely no idea how life would unfold for either of us… and yet here we are, all these years later, with our paths crossing again through our work in health and wellbeing.

Sometimes life has a funny way of bringing people back around 💚

I can’t wait to hear Clover share her thoughts at Stoke on Strength tomorrow!
