With the recent debut of Matthieu Blazy’s Metier’s D’Art collection for Chanel, HIGHRULE wants to sit everyone down to emphasize the importance of the shit that is going on in fashion right now. With the recent appointment of these three designers at these houses, we can all come to a conclusion that another generation of fashion is taking over. We can look back at the extensive work of these three designers and see what they’ve done so far to impact this industry as a whole. We see that they have an extensive understanding of addressing each pinpoint in fashion. The things they create just make sense, and they tell a very significant story of their inspirations and what they bring to the table. Wales Bonner is an amazing example of this. Imran Amed articulated a very true statement about her appointment at Hermès in a BOF article. “Yes, she is the first Black woman to take such a role at a major European luxury brand, but more importantly she is one of the most talented young creatives working in fashion, and someone who sticks to her guns. This is the perfect fit for Hermès.” To many, Wales Bonner is the future of what fashion can be. Hermès needs Bonner for the future to look good so the past can keep looking even more gratifying. This is what her and her peers are molding but at these other houses. Now JWA, His creative yet luxurious and simplistic touch gets even better at Dior. The contemporary-ism, attention to craft and simplicity behind his designs get even more highlighted at the house Christian Dior left behind. Along with others like Yves Saint Laurent, Raf Simons, Hedi Slimane, and Marc Bohan. Anderson’s take on the house is only just blooming and we’re seeing him sprout his initial ideas for whats to come. With Matthieu’s Metier’s D’Art debut we know now that there’s more to fashion than what’s “expected” or the uniform. Half risqué, half cool, all trendy. The incoming “newgen” of designers is upon us and it is time to embrace it even more. Let art and craftsmanship be the reason, not the advert. by @highrulemag
