Climb aboard & enjoy bumping around the US with us. Experience a tiny taste of life on the road with us. (Even if it doesn’t make a lick of sense).
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
High: Us! We’ve been following TGLs for a while now and now it’s time to pick up our skirts and meander to the coast! Looking at you, Boston.

Low: There isn’t really a low, but this is as close as I could get. Our theater in had some wall tags and we didn’t do one. I absolutely love signing the walls at theaters because we become part of the forever lore. Standing (in spirit) side by side with these massive shows is so humbling, yet at the same time, our story is one of the most important this theater walls could ever hear. Jesus loves you. Simple as that.

Buffalo: We wanted to get to Boston and explore. (Homeschool opps, ya know?). So we left after yesterdays matinee and we rolled into a service station on the toll road we were on to sleep for the night, Darby looked out the window and said “Thorn is here!”. She spotted our truckers across the lot. They came over to say hello before hitting the road again for the night. So fun to have our #dieselsquad together for a few minutes. Thanks for stopping by @tour_life_livin @louieyouthebest and Tony! by @highslowsbuffalos

High: The farm we are staying at is a maple syrup farm. The owner had muffins and coffee and hot chocolate for the kids this morning. She was so sweet and we visited for a couple of hours this morning learning about her farm and its history. Such a lovely experience! We learned all about how maple syrup is made and all the work that goes into it. We purchased some to take home!! Doubt it’ll make it all the way to TN though..

Low: We visited a CUTE little town called Chagrin Falls. Super adorable, with cute book shops, an adorable toy shop, boutiques, coffee shops, etc. The girls and I walked around, (the boys missed out on the fun). We are tight on funds this week because of some big hitter payments we needed to make, so unfortunately we couldn’t get anything in our meandering’s except just some looks annnd a $2 book). But alas, I’d LOVE to go back sometime. I hear T-Swift and husband are often spotted there. I can see why. We were snooted at while walking through a couple of stores while window shopping. We didn’t pay them any mind though. Sassafras glares bounce right off when you don’t give a hoot and a half. We had a wonderful time nonetheless.

Buffalo: Darby was reading her snooty book stores $2 used book tonight. It’s been a struggle bus to get this girl reading, but she read a whole chapter on her own. That’s huge. This is another reason why I love homeschooling. No pressure, just rolling at her pace. by @highslowsbuffalos

High: After finishing school, 3 out of the 4 kids were able to get 1 last round of disc golf with Thomas and Dev before leaving our campground to head north today.

Low: Today was adult day. We didn’t even do all of our laundry, due to the tony fact that we didn’t have enough cash, so we were only able to do scrap together 1 loads worth of cash (borrowed from the 10 year old) and ran a load of essentials. May need more laundry done.. almost pooped our pants to pay for another tank of diesel today.

Buffalo: We just started using Harvest Host, it’s an app that connects you to farmers and other people willing to allow you to park on their farms and properties, in exchange for you supporting their farm, business, etc. Tonight we are staying on a maple syrup farm! They also grow blueberries, which is obviously out of season right now. They’ve got a cute mini donkey that the kids are allowed to feed. Darby was so scared to get her fingers chomped off, the Donkey couldn’t get close enough to the apple to eat it off of her hand. Everyone else got to feed it though, tomorrow we will hopefully learn about how they tap maple trees and see their process. Homeschooling win and a (sort of) free place to park?! Win/win. The owner is such a sweetie as well. Excited to chat more with her tomorrow. Hopefully we will be able to buy some maple syrup while we are here as well. Yum. by @highslowsbuffalos

High: Our campground has a great disc golf course that the olders and Dev got to take advantage of before the sun set all the way this evening. 1 disc is going to have to be hunted down tomorrow though from what I hear. It got too dark to see.

Low: We got our engine checked back in Wisconsin. It’s still making an awful whir noise. Good news is, it’s not a crippling sound. We can limp the rest of tour without creating further damage but we need to get it fixed. Anyone know of a good diesel mechanic in East Tennessee??

Buffalo: Fall has hit the upper realms of the country. What a beautiful sight it is at that. Love us some colors. by @highslowsbuffalos

High: We got to visit the Ford Museum of American Innovation in Detroit. It was a rainy foggy day so it was prime time to spend the day inside a museum. It’s always a Schmidt favorite. Afterwards we got to have. Little pool and pizza fun at the teams hotel, and capped the day off with some games. What a day.

Low: Emery’s hair brush session with Mom didn’t last longer. Other than that, the day was top shelf.

Buffalo: This Home Depot has been such a blessing. Super safe and we have permission to park here over night. Not to anyways shock, Detroit isn’t crawling with campgrounds, unfortunately. So, this is the next best option. It’s not the ritz, but listen, God provides. #twigsandlint by @highslowsbuffalos

High: Schmidt bus movie night! We try to post up near the hotel every couple of tours and do a projected movie on the side of the bus. Tonight’s feature was Hook. We had ice cream and tried to keep spiders off of us. What a time.

Low: We weren’t plugged up to shore power and only had the generator which means we have to keep our electricity usage low. It was a warm day again, so that meant the AC was turned off to conserve power. We need cold. Not this 70s trash. Also, the fire departments Engine 1 was right beside the venue, so we heard quite a bit of siren blasts at all hours of the day.

Buffalo: After the team left, we were waiting for the trucks to finish packing up so we could pull out of the lot. While inside, Thomas and I were grabbing some photos of the inside of the theatre and a security guard was a CHAMP and showed us some secret spots in the theatre. We got to stand behind the Elephant. So neat to see the theatre from a different perspective as well as hear him tell us about the history of the place and a few little known facts. 1 fact was that the guy who built the Fox Theatre (Mr. Fox himself) was always so busy building that his wife was able to meet with investors and business partners in the front of the lobby. They would sit and play cards as she entertained. As a thank you he placed a nod to her card playing forever into the theatre ceiling to recognize and honor her. It didn’t match a dang thing from the rest of the theatre’s theme, but he snuck it in there in the 4 corners of the room. Cute back story! by @highslowsbuffalos

High: Signatures galore! So fun sharing the same stage as some of these big names.

Low: No friends to drink coffee with in the AM. Definitely missing our people.

Buffalo: Detroit is a loud nighttime city, and we have a fire station right next to us. But they need to know Jesus loves them the same as everyone else. So we put up with it. Ish. by @highslowsbuffalos

High: After catching a frog today Oakley said “I just LOVE Gods creations”. Me too kid. Me too. Lots of animals to have fun with here in Wisconsin. Still enjoying farm friends!

Low: Sauna is so so so lovely. But dang it if that cold plunge right after isn’t a beast. Geez. Round 1 is the worst, round 3 isn’t a walk in the park but it’s much easier to take. This pic was from round 3.

Buffalo: This hugenormous mushroom!! The girls found in it their adventuring. by @highslowsbuffalos

High: Beautiful Sunsets, yummy morning coffee, encouraging life chats, bonfires, stargazing, farm chores and the best kinds of friends.

Low: That we don’t live closer to @kleierfamilyfarm !! It’s been such a refreshing time to be with them and reconnect our kids. These two little ladies could have been twin besties, born only a few weeks apart, and have so many beautiful little things in common. Such a sweet pair.

Buffalo: Guess who has a sauna & cold plunge?? It’s exactly what the doctor ordered over half way through tour. I can’t even with these. I WILL have one of my own someday. by @highslowsbuffalos

High: It been a high volume weekend! Today was a 2 show day, which basically means I don’t sit down for an entire day. Last time I remember sitting down today was in the car driving in to the theatre this AM. Cest La Vie. Coffee got me through today with a little bit of sanity in tact.

Low: We stayed over 30 minutes from the venue. And there was a LOT of traffic this morning on our way in. Saturday AM traffic seems like a real beast.

Buffalo: Our campground hosts family fun on the weekends of October. It’s a bit thrown together but I think kids are having fun at the very least. Candy and playing. Can’t get any better.

Honorable mention since I’ve been behind in posts. This campground has a pool!! Indoor and heated and deep. My children have been LOVING it!! A little bit of grumpy neighbors and rude northern attitudes, but that’s alright. My southern kids have to be exposed to jerks ways of communicate at some point might as welly by @highslowsbuffalos

High: These crazy cats hit their 48 states today with North Dakota and Minnesota wrapping up their “I’ve been to that state!” adventure. The lower 48 was no small task, but they got it officially done today.

Low: We had to fill up again today. It will never be a high.

Buffalo: Yesterday when we got home from load out, we were supposed to replace a part in our engine to get rid of our weird noise and be done so we could hit the road this AM. Well. It was a downpour. So we didn’t do it. Instead, Devin got up at 6am and replaced the part so we could hit the road by 7:30. Champ! Bad news is, it didn’t fix the noise.. but at least we’ve got new boots on our turbo! by @highslowsbuffalos

High: Everyone got to see the show! Fun night at the theatre all together. Along with a few really great days of time spent together. Everyone is so sad to say bye but so happy to have had such a great time while we were in Nebraska.

Low: I guess there isn’t great drainage in these parts. We had been back at the bus for about an hour, after kissing kids and hearing about their time with cousins, they went to sleep. It’s been raining hard all evening, but I’m an especially heavy downpour, we looked out of the door window and water was a couple of inches from our bottom step of the bus. Not cool. No way I was getting any sleep with the potential of being flooded. So, Dev braved the river and we decided to hike our skirts up and move to higher ground. The casino RV Park we are at is just a big boring parking lot with electric boxes, so we found a less underwater spot and decided to ride out the storm there instead.

Buffalo: The kids had a great time playing D&D with each other over the last couple of days. We love a good creative thinking game, and they, I guess, also love it. They had a BLAST. by @highslowsbuffalos
