Dear Dino,
This is my apology letter to you. I’m sorry I didn’t act sooner even after knowing you were in trouble. I kept listening to what people said about you and believed them instead of trusting my heart. That guilt still feels heavy inside me.
I’m really sorry people spoke bad things about you. I truly feel animals can sense when people disrespect them or don’t speak kindly. I’m sorry they called you useless, stupid, and very aggressive, when the truth was that you just needed love and freedom from that chain. You were tied up in a small room for three years, three years of your life. That pain made you anxious and scared of new humans and animals. You weren’t bad, Dino, you were hurt. And I’m sorry they couldn’t understand your emotions.
I’m sorry I got late in rescuing you, but I thank God He gave me the courage to ask your owner for your responsibility so I could find you a new home. You were almost going to a shelter, and God knows how you would have survived there with your sensitive heart. I’m truly glad I asked to put you on adoption instead of letting that happen.
I will never forget sitting with you at 1:00 AM, talking to you and promising I would pull you out of that situation. Your eyes told me everything you had been through. That night I made you a promise.
I’m sorry your humans didn’t understand you. They didn’t deserve you. If I were your owner, even if life changed or I was getting married, I would never have given up on you.
I love you, Dino. Even if I was late, I hope I made you proud and kept my promise. I told you I wouldn’t let you go to a shelter, and I didn’t.
Seeing you now, safe, loved, and with people who want you to be confident and friendly, makes me emotional and happy at the same time. Seeing your pictures almost every day heals my heart.
You are a foster-fail kid, and foster-fail kids are always the luckiest because they are chosen with pure love. So many people didn’t work out because you were meant for your forever family.
I’ll always think about you and count my blessings for you. You will always have a piece of my heart. I’ve saved the most personal one for the last slide, it was our moment.🕊️✨

To my fellow hoomans,

Today, you reminded the country that ordinary people can make themselves heard.

After weeks of students raising their voices, India saw a Union minister resign. Whatever your politics, it showed that when people stand together peacefully and persistently, those in power eventually have to listen.

Watching you fight for your future gave me hope.

Because I have a question.

Will you fight for mine too?

I’m just a neighbourhood dog.

I don’t have a home with four walls.
The streets are my address.
The tea stall is my morning stop.
The watchman’s chair is my evening company.
The auntie who leaves rotis outside is my family.

Lately, I’ve heard people discussing removing dogs like me from the streets.

But where will I go?

There aren’t enough shelters.
There aren’t enough people to care for us.
And not every street dog can be adopted.

If the streets stop being our home, what becomes of us?

I know I can’t hold a placard.
I can’t march.
I can’t shout slogans.

All I can do is wag my tail when you come home.
Guard your lane while you sleep.
And trust that the same people who stood up for themselves might one day stand up for us too.

So today, I have just one request.

The passion you showed for your own rights…
Can you spare even a little of it for ours?

Because every life deserves dignity.
Even the ones with four paws.
