A heron sits atop an old tree at dusk in the Preserve.

In the dark of the woods you sometimes find a moment of beauty.

The fading light reflects off Lake Conestee in the Preserve. The distant tree in the center holds 4 nesting pair of heron, which I'll share in the next week.

I eventually got pretty close to the tortoise, so I could gaze into her eyes, into her soul. 2021

Hiking along the trail on a hot mid-morning spring day this desert tortoise decided to stop on the trail path and hang out for a couple hours. I found myself sitting down for about 45 minutes watching him since it was the first I'd seen, eventually laying down on the path to get some eye-to-eye shots. Found humor in both the people that came running up to me thinking I was hurt (until they saw the camera) and also one particular woman who thought the turtle was a rock, almost stepped on it, and then the "rock" moved and she almost jumped out of her skin. I laughed. Her not so much. 🙂 2021

Early morning sun with some fun clouds.

Found some pics from last summer I never posted before the move.

An egret hunts for an early evening meal while a bale of turtles slides around in the mud beyond. And no...I didn't know they traveled in groups called "bales" either. Thanks Google.

In life, we all need that one friend who no one else will mess with. Stick close to them. I just recommend more to their side than their rear...

Eventually all the blood rushed to the squirrel's head and he scooted up the tree, still working on that nut.
