Hi!

I am Hilary! I'm an archaeologist, a writer, a reader, a feminist, a human rights advocate, an environmentalist, and an explorer!

Welcome to my corner of Instagram!

It is the time of year where cemeteries are popular in pop culture, but I find cemeteries are a life long commitment.

Historical Fiction is one of my favourite genres! These are just some books I would recommend, though some I am still in the process of reading.

What are some of your favourite historical fiction books? Which historical period is your favourite?

Here are some of my hot takes and opinions, some can be counted as fact as well - like Henry VIII being mentally ill long before his injury, though this is still up for debate.

What are your Tudor related hot takes and opinions?

Part 2 is coming!

Oh to be walking by the walls of Edinburgh Castle again. Edinburgh is such a beautiful city and the castle guarding it is just the tip of the iceberg. Take me back there any day! I really want to visit to see the Military Tattoo and go see all the book shops and cafes. A friend of mine has recommended @notjustcoffee.official so thats on the top of my list. I have been many times but I feel like I haven't seen enough of the city

What is your favourite part of Edinburgh?

This summer I really want to get back into reading historical fiction. I have included the books I would really recommend and the ones I would like to read in the future. I'm not big on hitting reading goals, but my goal over the summer is to read as much as possible.

I am an Archaeology student now but the book that started my love for historical fiction - which helped kick off my obsession with archaeology - was the Queens Fool by Philippa Gregory. I know she gets a lot of hate, and the only book of hers I find questionable is The Other Boleyn Girl.

What books about the Tudor would you recommend?

Sunshine became my personality again.

I have been feeling a bit cramped inside while in the city and on campus, but now it is spring I have been getting myself outside more. I now have a new favourite lunch spot and a new lunch buddy, Maggie the Magpie.

What are your favourite spots on your campus/place of work?

My twist on the kinda chic trend, which is a fun trend, but women are more than chic. I love being able to study when women have fought for my right to do so. Though, I understand many women are still unable to study. I have met women who decided to make the plunge to change their careers and study again when they're not in the typical age group when they weren't allowed to do so before; sometimes it was because they had kids or they had a male family member who controlled them. Then, you have women like those in Afghanistan where education has been blocked for them. Women fought for my education, so it is my job to fight for those who continue to not have access to education.

Spring has sprung and my first exam is over!

I am not an exam person, I did one exam in my first year of uni and now several years later in my masters I am doing my second exam. I feel like I did okay because I used a different study method. Firstly, I actually studied (funny how that works). Secondly, I used a method of study that actually worked - the recall method through the use of note cards/palm cards, and I did memory/recall games. I felt fairly confident in the exam, I didn't get every question right - I am sure, but I definitely passed! Now, I am a few days away from my semester break and I can not wait!

I love Spring, I love everything about it from the fresh air and the new growths. In Canberra the blossoms are blooming and the grass is getting greener. I love it!

What is your favourite season? And what is your favourite study method?
