PHOTOGRAPHY FESTIVAL 2025.
A biennial art festival celebrating all things analogue photography.
Hill End Analogue Photography Festival and Hill End Arts Council Inc. invite proposals for photographic work that responds to the 2025 theme:

FUGITIVE
Impermanent, elusive, fleeting, transitory.
Beauty is fugitive.
All is shifting.

The village of Hill End, NSW, is an 1870’s Historic Site administered by National Parks and Wildlife NSW. It is an intact historic village of great significance in the history of Australian Photography,
depicted in the contemporaneous ‘Holtermann Collection’ held in the State Library of NSW.

The Hill End Analogue
Photography Festival 2025 program will feature exhibitions, installations, artist talks and workshops that will activate the whole of the Historic Site.
20 selected artists will interpret the theme of FUGITIVE 2025.

The festival aims to promote community awareness, appreciation and engagement in analogue photography, serving as a springboard for discussion about the past, present and future of analogue arts.

Hill End Analogue Photography Festival explores the expressive and experimental edges of analogue photography:
camera-less, lens-based, chemical, darkroom and historical.

Works could reflect on process, material, memory, impermanence and time.

Mediums may include:
Silver Gelatin · Cyanotype · Wet Plate Collodion · Daguerreotype · Photogravure · Other
analogue/alternative processes.

Artists based in Australia and internationally are welcome to apply.
Artworks should be presented as a cohesive whole.

Submissions open: 1 June 2025
Submissions close: 1 August 2025

Festival dates: 14 - 16 November 2025

Here’s a ‘tintype’ of Mikko Perkola from Finland, who performed a beautiful piece for us on his Viola da Gamba in the Sacred Heart church at Hill End yesterday. Mikko and his artist wife, Sandra Nyberg just completed a residency in Portland NSW.
Sandra has exhibited with Bathurst Regional Gallery and was a past recipient of of the Hill End Artist in residence programme.
