Did you know… Bats are the main pollinators of agave?

The agave plants which are used to make mezcal are pollinated by bats, specifically the lesser long-nosed bats and the Mexican long-tongued bat. These bats feed on the nectar of agave flowers and, in the process, spread pollen from plant to plant, helping agaves cross-pollinate and reproduce naturally.
