This massive Industrial Reclaimed Oregon Pine table now lives at To9 Herb and Spice in Hartbeespoort 🪵✨

Measuring 3.3 metres long, it’s built from 60+ year old beams that once formed animal shelters. You can still see the cracks, knots, and even some honest rot — real character that only time can create. The top is paired with seriously heavy legs made from thick wood beams and raw universal steel for that perfect industrial-rustic edge.

At 770mm high and 1240mm wide, it comfortably seats 10–12 people — ideal for the wine and cheese tastings that will soon happen right here in the spice shop.

This isn’t just furniture. It’s a piece of history, given a bold new life in a space full of flavour and warmth.

Watch me bring this custom engraving to life on a massive 1250x3400mm table made from many smaller old pine beams carefully glued together! 🔥

The highlight? Carving the exact words “Handmade by hindenburgeffect for To9 herb and spice” deep into the reclaimed pine. I filled every letter with black wood filler for bold, striking contrast, sanded it all flush for a perfectly smooth surface, and sealed everything with multiple coats of clear lacquer spray to protect the detail and enhance the natural grain.

From raw laminated beams to a crisp, professional inlay — this engraving process turns a simple table into a personal, forever piece for To9 Herb and Spice.

Every cut, fill, and sand was done by cnc and hand with care and precision. The black filler pops beautifully against the warm pine once sanded and lacquered.

After 2 YEARS of sitting dormant and collecting dust… my massive vintage Wadkin RU series woodworking lathe is finally waking up! 🔥

This beast is a proper British heavy-duty sliding gap bed lathe — built like a tank for pattern makers and serious woodturners. Cast iron everywhere, legendary engineering, and today she gets her first taste of electricity in 24 months!

✅ First try power-up → she spins up perfectly, no smoke, no drama!
But… listen to that dry-bearing growl 😬 Old grease had completely dried out after so long.

So I grabbed the grease gun and hit every single grease nipple on the headstock bearings and key points. Fresh Wadkin-spec grease going in, old gunk coming out — super satisfying to watch!

Power back on… and she’s now running SMOOTH and almost silent. Pure bliss! These Wadkin RU lathes really are built to last.

An interesting design for this mitre joint. It is cut on the cnc machine and designed to work or join with itself. Each side is both male and female at the same time which makes the milling simple by just running on program on all mitred end. Hey everyone 👋 Finally finished this beast of a round oak table and I’m honestly buzzing about it. Turned out way bigger and bolder than I first pictured — 1200 mm diameter top in gorgeous European white oak. Perfect centrepiece for a living room, hallway, or anywhere you want something that commands attention without screaming.

The top is made from carefully selected European white oak boards — straight-grained, beautiful medullary flecks, a few character knots for personality. I edge-jointed and glued up the panel, added floating tenons for strength. Hand sanded up through 320 grit, then hit it with multiple coats of Holzol worktop oil. Rubbed it back between coats so it’s silky but still shows every bit of the wood’s depth and grain.

The base though… that’s where the fun really happened. I started with a massive chunk of the same European white oak, mounted it on the lathe, and turned the big central bulb, the flowing curves, and that flared, pedestal foot. Sanded the turning to 400 grit, sealed it, then matched the hardwax oil finish so everything ties together perfectly.

Joined the top to the base with a user friendly locking system that can attach and detach the top when it needs to be moved through a narrow space. — this thing weighs a ton (probably 50+ kg) and feels like it’s grown roots into the floor. Rock solid, no wobble, built to last generations.

Made every part in the workshop with hand tools, cnc router, and a lot of coffee. European white oak has such incredible colour and figure — turns beautifully and ages like fine wine.
