When I was diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder in 2017, I tried so hard to keep it a secret because I knew na hindi naman mage-gets ng mga sasabihan ko. Like, pag sinabi kong may OCD ako, iisipin lang nila na organized akong tao (LMAO I AM NOT!!!! 🤣), or gusto ko lang color-coded mga damit ko, ganyan.

Back then, I didn't know that the best way for people to understand what it means—what it REALLY means—is for us to have more conversations about it. To talk about what it looks like, what it feels like, and how different it can be from the stereotypes we grew up hearing.

And that's exactly what we're creating space for. 💙

On October 17, @ocdpilipinas is hosting OCDare to Share. 💙 Whether you're living with OCD, you have a loved one who is, or you simply want to understand the disorder, you are welcome here!

In August 2024, my friends and I played We're Not Really Strangers at a sleepover. I got a card asking something like this (I'm honestly not sure if this was the actual card, but I think so!), and they each had to answer.

@quiethandz's answer struck me the most: "You look happy."

This short answer made me realize that I've been hearing that from friends since I moved out. Friends say I have this radiant glow (RADIANT GLOW???)—a glow they haven't seen in a long time (and for some, a glow they've never seen before).

Moving out in January 2023 was truly the best gift I've ever given myself. It gave me the space to grow, heal, and be happy. Maybe that’s the glow they see—the kind that comes from finally feeling at home within myself.

So here's another message to the younger me who didn't think she'd ever hear "You look happy" ever again: You will be. 🩷 by @hindikaoc

Just one of those life updates worth documenting 💖 by @hindikaoc

Pleasantly surprised after seeing "OCD" on the list of misused terms on social media.

Thank you so much, @8list.ph, for explaining it very well. We appreciate you!!!

Life update. 💖 Proud of myself for being able to talk about this illness more comfortably! Here's to educating more people about OCD. ☺️ by @hindikaoc

I know my posts should be about the right use of the terms "OC" and "OCD," but I just want to include this here. I'm proud of myself, and my friends are too. ☺️ by @hindikaoc

I saw this post on Facebook just around 5 minutes ago, and I immediately felt that I had to post about it.

This is not okay. The more we give these incorrect definitions of the acronym "OCD," even as a joke, the more the disorder gets misunderstood and stigmatized.

P.S. When I saw the top photo, I hoped to see an explanation about OCD in the bottom photo. Silly me. 🤷🏻‍♀️ by @hindikaoc

Before telling me this, my therapist joked that I might not need her anymore because this is all I have to remember every time my OCD takes over my mind.

People with OCD have intense, irrational, and close-to-impossible fears. The examples I mentioned here are not even as intense as the fears of others (Some fears involve sickness, death, etc.).

Before you casually/lightly say that you're "OC," think of those who go through such debilitating thoughts every single day.

If you just want something to be perfect, hindi ka OC. by @hindikaoc

October 10 to 16, 2022 is OCD Awareness Week. Let's continue to remind ourselves to properly label mental health disorders so we can break the stigma together! by @hindikaoc

OCD is a disability that you don't physically see.

Think about the physical disabilities that you know. You wouldn't say that you have them when you don't, right?

It's the same thing with OCD. It's a disability. NOT having the disability means hindi ka OC. by @hindikaoc

Saying that you're depressed when you're actually sad trivializes the suffering of those who are ACTUALLY depressed.

In the same way, saying that you're OC when you simply want things to be perfect trivializes the suffering of actual OCD sufferers.

Trust me — being "OC" is a whole lot worse than simply wanting things to be in order. by @hindikaoc

Mental health disorders are not adjectives, and they are most certainly not verbs. by @hindikaoc
