Hi! Let us introduce ourselves. We are the hosts of the Red Brick Retreat on Market - Jennifer and Matthijs. Outside of sharing our treasured space with visitors to Frederick, we grow succulents, enjoy traveling, and spending time with our adorable and crazy pups @stickyandtommy. We both work in the IT world and moved to California from MD for work.

We host with the help of our local co-hosts & amazing team of helpers. Matthijs does the behind the scenes work and I take care of guest communications and making our guests experience top notch - along with our social media account. With over 20 years in technical support/customer service, I’ve been able to translate my legendary technical support into legendary hospitality (I hope!)

At the Red Brick Retreat on Market we aim to make sure our guests are comfortable, happy and taken care of when spending time in our treasured space. Our guests are far from “heads in a bed” but rather valued friends. Every decision made is with the guest experience in mind. We love sharing our home and love of Frederick while supporting the local community, artists and shops at the same time.

We stayed in #hipandhistoricfrederick 2 years ago for a wedding and fell head over heels in love with it. The Red Brick Retreat on Market gives us the best of both worlds, home away from home in MD, a space close to our daughters and family and the opportunity to share and help others.

It’s nice to meet you! We love curating an amazing vacation, retreat, getaway or workation for our guests. We can’t wait to host you!

We love hosting visitors of Hip and Historic Frederick, but the cycle of “omg, there’s so much to do. I need to post more! be more!” doesn’t stop. It’s fun to step back and remember that this little girl would be very proud of her two Guest Favorite stays (soon to be three!) and the local community following she’s built. by @hipandhistoricfrederick

These paint kits somehow turned me into a painter. The amazing thing about acrylics is you can just keep layering until you get the look you want. I swear I wasn’t a painter before a paint class at Frederick Made and a bunch of paint kits purchased from them after. They’ve given me the confidence to try and they somehow always come out like I’ve been a painter all my life. 🤯

I don’t watch TV anymore (yup, I’m super weird) but I do listen to audio books these days. 3rd time on book 3 of Dungeon Crawler Carl and these paint kits from @shopfrederickmade are the perfect companion. The key to stopping the scroll. Yes, i get the irony.

happiness can be this simple.

a t-shirt that says the thing you’ve been thinking. a sidewalk in Shab Row. a town small enough that the person who made it is sitting right there behind the counter.
this is the version of a weekend we keep trying to describe to people.

you’re not driving between attractions. you’re walking. you turn a corner and find Wavelength Wear at 122 N East St, where Matt and Jeovany print tees, totes and stickers with messages you don’t have to explain to anyone.

queer-owned. a piece of every sale goes back to local causes. there’s a whole Frederick collection, because they think this is the greatest city in the world and honestly, same.

that’s the whole pitch for Frederick. not a checklist. a few blocks where the shops are run by people who show up for the place.
