This is what happens when we gut public health.

The CDC's parasite surveillance team went from 11 people to 3. Now we're living through the largest Cyclospora outbreak in U.S. history — nearly 7,000 cases across 34+ states, and climbing. At the same time, the FDA is recalling contaminated food off shelves. This isn't a coincidence, it's a consequence.

Food safety, disease surveillance, water quality — these are the systems that keep our communities alive, and they don't run on their own. They run on funding, staffing, and people whose job it is to catch problems before they become outbreaks. When that gets "cut" in the name of savings, we all pay the price at the dinner table.

Our communities — especially Black and Brown communities already navigating food deserts and under-resourced health systems — feel it first and worst.

Protecting public health isn't optional. It's the floor everything else stands on. Swipe through, then tell your reps: fully fund the agencies that keep us safe.

Shoutout @feminist for shining a light on different Black and Indigenous women have always led the work of reclamation.

From Mother Viola Fletcher, a survivor of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre who spent her life demanding justice and reparations for Greenwood, to photojournalist Tailyr Irvine, who’s using her lens to assert Indigenous sovereignty and tell Native stories on Native terms. Reclamation looks different in every generation, but the throughline is the same: refusing to let history, land, or truth be taken without a fight.

This is what erased generational wealth looks like.

Oscarville, Georgia was once home to a thriving Black community, families who owned land, built businesses, and were building the kind of wealth meant to be passed down.

🔘 In 1912, a wave of racial terror drove Black residents out of Forsyth County entirely, forcing them to abandon the land and everything they'd built.

🔘 In the 1950s, that same land was flooded to create what we now know as Lake Lanier.

The people were erased first. Then the place was erased too.

This is much of the gap still talked about it today. It's not about the effort or ambition, its about the land, the homes and the generational wealth that was taken.

These are the reparations we are talking about.

In the last week, ICE shot and killed two people.

25-year-old Johan Sebastian Duran Guerrero was shot and killed in Biddeford, Maine.

Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a father of three, was shot and killed in Houston, TX.

ICE is establishing a pattern of violence and brutal use of force, and people are dying as a result.
