POSTS STORIES REELS

Tonight on KOBV: Cure for Paranoia on Hip Hop Hello.

@cureforparanoia came through @kuaf_radio before their show at @theMomentary, and this week you can hear it all on @bentonvilleradio. The Dallas-based group played three songs, and stayed to talk with @clintschaff about the years behind the @nprmusic Tiny Desk win, what makes this a collective, and how they’re making music for the moment we’re living through. I’ve got the full conversation and all three KUAF Live Sessions performances in hour one, surrounded by fresh hip hop — two hours in total.

Big love to @kuaf_radio and @kuaf_music for making the session happen and letting me share it here. Watch the interview and all three performances at youtube.com/@kuaf913. And if you value this kind of local music coverage + local news and info + @npr, support our KUAF friends at supportkuaf.com.

Tonight, 6–8 p.m. on KOBV @bentonvilleradio 103.3 FM or stream at bentonvilleradio.com. Replaying Saturday, 4–6 p.m. on KUAF HD3.

Also in the show:

• @lrbaang and the Gaang take over Shiloh Square in downtown Springdale on Nov. 14. Free, all ages, and the stage is open to the community during the first hour.

• Thundercat comes to Fayetteville’s @ozarkmusichall on Nov. 10, so I put together a little run of tracks connecting him, Erykah Badu, the Alchemist and Rapsody.

• Hip Hop Hello is nominated for an @arkansaslife Life Creator Award in Arts + Entertainment. Voting is open through Nov. 6. Link in stories—and thank you for voting. The homie @bigpiph is a nominee in another category. Show some love. by @hiphophellonwa

This week: BIG DADDY KANE on Hip Hop Hello.

Kane joins me for a conversation about making Curtain Call, grown-man rap, bridging hip-hop’s generations, the competitive fire that sharpened the Juice Crew—and why a complete MC must be both a lyricist and a party rocker.

“There’s a lot that the younger generation can learn from us, and there’s a lot that we can learn from the younger generation.”

The playlist traces Kane’s lineage and influence while making room for seven listener selections:

★ “Raw” — @shortstop70
★ “Int’l Players Anthem” — @axleoke
★ “C.R.E.A.M.” — @lkjennin
★ “Sing for the Moment” — @alterbrap
★ “High Rollers” — @mstag233
★ “Squeeze the Trigger” — @incomingcats
★ “Summertime” — @lkjennin

Plus new music from Mic King with Rakim and Aesop Rock with Blockhead.

Congratulations to @stringtheorynwa, winner of our pair of tickets to see @cureforparanoia at @TheMomentary—and thanks to everyone who entered.

What song first introduced you to hip-hop?

For millions of people around the world, it was “Rapper’s Delight.”

This week on Hip Hop Hello, I talk with Hen Dogg of the Sugarhill Gang about carrying that history forward, the joy at the heart of the group’s music and what a full lifetime in hip-hop can look like.

As Hen Dogg told me: “It’s no age limit, man, when it comes to music… If he can still do it, why not hip-hop? The pen is always active.”

Plus 20 tracks spanning hip-hop’s history and present—including the full version of “Rapper’s Delight,” Rapsody, Hieroglyphics, Grandmaster Caz, Public Enemy, De La Soul, Def Squad, Redman, Cure for Paranoia, Your Old Droog, Saul Williams, Seun Kuti and more.

We also talk about Sugarhill Gang coming to Arkansas with Ice-T, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane and DJ Jazzy Jeff for The Art of Rap at the Walmart AMP on October 18.

Ice-T takes over Hip Hop Hello this week.

We spend nearly an hour with the hip-hop pioneer talking about his first solo rap album in 20 years, Criminal Migraine; why artists need to take the business back from streaming and the labels; “Cop Killer” in 2026; Schoolly D’s influence on “6 in the Mornin’”; and bringing the Art of Rap to Arkansas with Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Sugarhill Gang.

And Ice-T is part of a larger renaissance: hip-hop’s legends are making vital music right now. We’ll begin the show with new Hieroglyphics and Tash, with Mike D and Erykah Badu also later in the mix.

Plus plenty of Ice-T—new and classic.

This week, Hip Hop Hello goes deep with Slug of Atmosphere — then hands the playlist over to you.

Host @ClintSchaff sits down with Slug to talk about three decades of Atmosphere, storytelling, the new album Jestures, and what keeps him and @antturnthatsnaredown creating after all these years.

Then DJ Cleezy digs into your listener recommendations ahead of @Atmosphere, 311, Dirty Heads and Rome taking over the @walmart_amp AMP Wednesday night — with picks from just some of our giveaway entrants, including @morganhmc, @arenuart23, @dylwilmusic, @axleoke, @justine_beech, martumaaihsv, @brunamtu, @duartelauren1, @joshuabernan89, @suelijunior, @susfc, @swartcristina, @urbanskijose, @vieirasanne, @viniciusbelario, @dontcallmekimmy and @erinrupp.

And congrats to @dylwilmusic, our ticket giveaway winner! He asked for Atmosphere’s God’s Bathroom Floor. Couldn’t find a radio edit for that one, so you’re gonna have to come out to the AMP Wednesday night and hear it live — just like me.

Plus, new and classic hip hop and music from right here in Northwest Arkansas.

Tune in to Hip Hop Hello with DJ Cleezy on the @kuaf_music HD3 channel every Saturday from 4–6 pm CT, streaming at KUAF.com, and on KOBV @bentonvilleradio every Saturday and Tuesday from 6–8 pm CT — broadcasting on 103.3 FM locally and streaming at bentonvilleradio.com. I need to talk about @Atmosphere for a second. I’ve seen Slug and Ant perform live well over 200 times at this point. This year marks 30 years for them — 1995 to 2025 — and they just put out a career retrospective spanning the whole run. Out of Minneapolis, part of Rhymesayers, one of the most important independent labels hip hop’s ever had. Thirty years in, and they’ve never chased a moment — they built something that lasts. I’ve watched that happen in real time. Now you can see it for yourself.

This week, Hip Hop Hello bumps two hours of mashups — Death Cab for Cutie collided with hip hop, from Notorious B.I.G. to 2Pac to Kanye.

My neighbor DJ EG put in the request, and we’re running it tonight as pre-party music before Death Cab for Cutie’s sold-out show at The Momentary Green.

Listen for Jay-Z, Dead Prez, Future, Pusha T, Lil Wayne, Smino, Mavis Staples. And, of course, a lot of Death Cab for Cutie.

Tonight/Saturday 6-8pm CT. DJ CLEEZY @clintschaff Only on KOBV @bentonvilleradio 103.3 FM / bentonvilleradio.com by @hiphophellonwa
