0200 hot and humid at a bus station. I asked how much for a coke but I thought this would be a great angle for a shot especially with the empty stalls.

For the several years, I’ve been driving around our great country. I even managed to drive to Canada twice. On the second Canadian road trip, I drove along the beautiful Saint Lawerence River and Seaway deep into Quebec until all I could smell is the evergreen pines and the burning joints of marijuana. MJ has to be the Official Plant of the Province of #quebec #420 #bonghits
This pic isn’t in Quebec or even Canada. This is Tennessee. #visittennessee On another road trip, I stopped to enjoy (for the second time) the music history of #nashville by visiting places like the Johnny Cash Museum. As a kid, I read a book on the Grand Ole Opry and its hallowed planked stage. So, I wanted to visit the Grand Ole Opry. I knew that the place has relocated several times. I wanted to see the one that replaced the original location.
Well, with Google Maps I saw the second location listed and marked. I tapped the destination. After a bit of a drive I got to the spot…it’s now a Bass Pro Shop but nonetheless this place satisfies the needs for any hunter/gatherer, fisher or hiker with reasonable prices!

These pups wouldn’t sit still—not matter what I would say. Either one or both would jump off the bench before I could take a calculated shot. This shot is probably the 15th one.

On my travels in Louisiana, I found the place that I only heard of by reading of the time and place in a college history textbook that only gave a passing sentence about Filipino Slaves. Here is another historical marker of the #manilamen #villagelife in a #louisana #bayou. As I had mentioned in an earlier post, waves of slaves from modern-day #philippines had jumped #spanishgalleons for over decades and decades to freedom in the swamps of Louisiana. #slavery #travelphotography #igorot taken in Jean Lafitte, La by @hipsan

When I visited Santa Fe, on the first morning I explored the residential neighborhoods around the Downtown. As I drove around, one thought that came to mind was of a friend who told me offhandedly that he could just behold, from a distance, any mountain range. He could see the beauty whereas I really didn’t think like that. Here I’m at a neighborhood I’ve never seen but I’m taking in the wide blue sky and the dark earth tones. #santafe #travelphotography taken in Santa Fe, New Mexico by @hipsan

No, I’m not in the #Philippines. Here, I’m hanging out of my hotel window to take an unobstructed shot of my view of downtown Lafayette, Louisiana and this flag. #lafayettela This is the flag of the people of the Acadiana or the Cajuns. I nearly drove to Texas but opted to hang out in a smaller city in western LA. I prefer local vs big business, so I stayed at the Juliet Hotel on Jefferson St in downtown. A very beautiful picturesque hotel with minimalistic yet traces of Roman style architecture. The city folk were all very nice and the food was raging like a Cajun. #cajunfood #louisiana #acadiana #cajun #buylocal #travelphotography taken in Lafayette, Louisiana by @hipsan

On my visit to #louisiana , I searched for the #filipino villages along the Louisiana #bayou . The back story is that Filipino slaves on Spanish ships #spanishhistory continuously escaped for over a century. I researched this topic using my university’s library #odu archive database where I found an #readersdigest issue published in ~1913 that pinpointed the numerous stilted bayou villages and interviewed the villagers. These people, collectively, were called #manilamen . Over a dozen bayou villages existed that started in early eighteenth century. Here, I’m at the marker where one of the largest village stood but a hurricane destroyed it in the mid-twentieth century. Over that century where Filipino #slavery jumped ship, other Manila Men intermarried with First Nation Peoples, African slaves and some left for cities like nearby #neworleans . Many Manila Men, as stated from that interview, sent for family members in the Philippines and reunited with them in bayous. Unfortunately, no Manila Men village still stands. #barataria #igorot #nola #ushistory taken in Barataria, Louisiana by @hipsan

Here, I’m sitting at Beans Talk (a cafe but can’t locate @ account) in #baguio city on the corner of Session and Mabini. Nice to see that Session has expanded in quality cafes. BT has very friendly staff and a solid breakfast coming from an American who had many of their breakfasts #cafelife You can see #burhamparkbaguio down Mabini. I always say the city of Baguio is at room temperature but outside. Very temperate mountain city. taken in Baguio City, Philippines by @hipsan

Here, I’m standing on a pedestrian overpass and looking at #malcolmsquarebaguio . This area is the center of the city. No more Sunshine Restaurant, though, which I think was the best place for #lumpia . #baguio #igorot #visitphilippines #travelphotography taken in Baguio City, Philippines by @hipsan

My visit to #neworleans last winter was the coldest in 80 years. My AirBNB’s furnace’s thermostat broke bc as the tech said, it just couldn’t catch up to 70F! I remember placing my hand on my bedroom wall to the outside. It felt as if I placed my hand on the exterior side—no difference. Here I went for a walk and took a pic of a #catholicchurch The #crawfishboil I had at #porgysseafoodmarket when the cold spell ended. #nola taken in Mid-City New Orleans by @hipsan

はい!! I ate #sushi in #tokyo ! I walked into this restaurant using my 1st-year Japanese #nihongo and exchanged pleasantries with the host. After that all pops and buzzes—I couldn’t understand a syllable. The host sat me at the counter and with a smile handed me an iPad. With it, I could read their menu in almost every language, order/reorder and then close my tab—with the option to pay cash. #traveljapan #thefuture taken in Kawasaki-City Kanagawa Japan by @hipsan
