𝗨𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀: 𝗣𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁
In this exhibition, compared to her past work, ZHU's new pieces present pencil strokes, areas of blank space, and traces of alteration and correction in a more direct and candid manner. Through the transformation of these traces, the artist re-examines her own creative motivations during the painting process — which parts brought pure self-satisfaction, and which parts concealed a desire for attention and recognition from others.
The traces left on the canvas are not merely visual layers; they honestly reveal the artist's process of judgment and choice at the moment of creation, the focused enjoyment of handling materials, and the quiet, private process of sharing her inner turbulence.

𝗔 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝗡𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹: 𝗦𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
ZHU Men-Zhen notes that, compared to her earlier work, the content of this series is closer to real life rather than fictional, imagined narratives. This shift stems from a recent transition in her life stage — graduating from art school, moving back home to work independently, and simultaneously entering the workforce. These changes in living environment and role have made her more acutely attentive to the psychological and physical fluctuations she has experienced during this period.
"This is a turning point in the story, and also the way I waver between life and creation," the artist says. By honestly documenting these moments of "wavering," the exhibition invites viewers to step into her visual diary, experiencing the quietly charged dialogue between reality and creation, the private and the public, certainty and uncertainty. by @hirohiroartspace

Artwork Statement|都是我 All of Me @wizardzmz
“Recently, after returning home from the academy, I have begun to have some new thoughts and feelings about the shift in my identity.

One day, I saw several different finger puppets worn on the fingers of a single hand, and it led me to imagine: the hand represents myself; the fingers reaching outward represent the many possibilities within me; and the finger puppets placed on the fingertips represent the different roles I take on.

In my own case, these might be a woman, a daughter, a fan, an employee, and so on. These identities can coexist at the same time, and they can also be switched at any moment. I began to wonder: if I were to cast each of these identities aside, would I feel free, or perhaps lighter?

But then again, once I let go of these identities, what would be left of me?

After all, the various states of mind within me and the directions in which I continue to grow are, to some extent, connected to these identities. It is precisely these countless identities that have shaped the multifaceted person I am today.”──ZHU Men-Zhen

【 Meet the Gallery|Hiro Hiro Art Space 】

“Collecting is not simply about owning a work of art. It begins with understanding the artist behind it.”

Founded in Taipei in 2018, Hiro Hiro Art Space grew from a dialogue between artists and collectors, with a focus on contemporary art from Japan and across Asia. Rather than following names or market trends, Hiro Hiro looks for artists with a distinct visual language and a sustained approach to their practice.

“We’ve always believed that the space a work inhabits shapes the way it is seen.”

That idea is at the heart of their participation in A Ma de Jia. Here, contemporary art leaves the neutrality of a conventional gallery and enters historic houses shaped by time, memory, and everyday life. The architecture becomes part of the viewing experience, allowing art to meet the stories of a place.

During their visit to Xiluo, Jiefa Tea House left a lasting impression. Its covered corridors invite visitors to move through the space, encountering works from different perspectives. Rather than simply standing before a work, you find yourself walking into a piece of local history.

There was also a small personal connection: a member of the team’s father had once bought tea from Jiefa Tea House. Years later, this visit brought an old memory back to Xiluo, through art.

Artist Profile | Chu Man-Chen (b. 1998, Taoyuan, Taiwan) @wizardzmz

Chu Man-Chen holds a BFA and MFA from Tunghai University’s Department of Fine Arts, and currently lives and works in Taoyuan. Working primarily in small-scale oil paintings, she uses intricate surface textures to build visual worlds steeped in fairytale and myth. Expressive techniques like layering pigment, letting oil paint wash and drip, or leaving raw pencil marks visible serve as key elements in setting the mood of her work. Beneath the charming and luminous surfaces, her paintings quietly process themes of anxiety, subtle violence, and the search for stability.

In her recent work, the process of decision-making and revision remains visible on the canvas. This honest documentation captures the internal shifts of stepping into new life stages, tracing a delicate balance between lived reality and creative fiction.
