The Good Friend —— the thing about good friends is that they can often silence their pain to be there for everyone else even when they need someone themsleves. They suffer in silence a lot. This painting is a reminder to check on your good friends, the ones who seem to be always good, the ones who always seem strong, and able to focus more on you than them. The honest plant leaves are a reminder to myself and fellow good friends to be honest about their suffering and where they are. The inner man is the most important person! Bitter sweet ending of my journey as a writer on Black Lightning with my last written episode airing TONIGHT 9p/8c I CAN NOT THANK GOD ENOUGH thank you to CAST and CREW @cress_williams @officialchristineadams @nafessawilliams @laura.kariuki @chrisammanuel @mckalinhand @krondon @j_calloway6

First, because there couldn’t have been a better divinely assigned director than @keeshasharp a wonderful human being, a woman with the gentlest spirit, full of love, patience and understanding. A beautiful mind with a clear focused and great vision. A great director!

Secondly, Black Lightning, thank you to @monsieurdirector created a Financial opportunity for me to provide my brother with the needed tools to pursue his dream with music after the pandemic hit and he couldn’t work. Now he has been thriving and releasing music and one of his songs “Everybody” is in my final episode. THANK YOU GOD. I love you bro. @jer.rod.artist #blacklightning @cw_blacklightning taken in Los Angeles, California by @his_vulnerability_

Black Lightning Season 4 is art. This is what effortless hard work, dedication and passion looks like even through a pandemic with some of the greatest folks I have and will continue to work with. While you’ve heard the news of our shows cancellation, just know no matter how many journeys end, the value of the art created can never be tarnished or canceled. You our fans, our audience, our family will carry the impact this show is still making on each and everyone of YOU! I’m super grateful for the team I work with under the leadership of the man who the vision started with @monsieurdirector , Black Lightning is only the beginning, the training and preparation for the other great things we all will create together and respectfully on our own. Bring on the #painkiller God willing. I can’t wait for y’all to see how banging season 4 is and to see the work of @blacklightningwriters #charlesholland @adam_giaudrone @brustab and #John @lamagee33 @thatjamila @dre_edmonds @jakeballerwaller @ashecon82 @christyjacobs @itskayrich and myself. Grateful to @thecw and @warnerbrosentertainment #blacklightning and of course what we do would not be possible without the passion and raw talent, blood, sweat and tears of our amazing cast @cress_williams @officialchristineadams @chinamcclain @nafessawilliams @krondon @chrisammanuel @chantalthuy @j_calloway6 @willcatlett @rafisodope and everyone else recurring and day players. BOSS, MENTOR, BROTHER, FRIEND!¡ Because of this man’s faith, obedience and perseverance, his extraordinary wife/partner @maraakil, his family. Black Lightning has become fertile ground for God to change so many lives. Where would the cast, crew or anyone involved be doing had at any point in his life he gave up. Folks have blessed to take care of their family, buy houses, cars, pay off debts achieve success where once it didn’t seem possible. It is the quiet ones working for a positive change in the background with the people who need it most who should be honored and celebrated because they let their actions speak louder than their words while being impeccable with their word at the same time. They fight for people like themselves you & me. This man Salim Akil has changed my life forever and blessed me with countless new brotherhoods that I will carry with me the rest of my life. #blacklightning #akilproductions taken in Atlanta, Georgia by @his_vulnerability_
