How does a democracy collapse?

The fifth and final season of Babylon Berlin takes us to February 1933: a moment when a deeply divided society is rapidly radicalising and democratic structures are beginning to crumble. Gereon Rath, Charlotte Ritter and the others face an existential choice: adapt, resist, retreat – or flee.

And right now, these questions feel strikingly relevant again. Not because history simply repeats itself, but because the mechanisms remain familiar: polarisation, the rise of authoritarian forces, and the gradual erosion of what once seemed unshakeable.

At its core, the final season of @babylonberlinseries asks a question that reaches far beyond 1933: What do we do when democracy can no longer be taken for granted?
