I haven't posted in over a year so short catch-up. I turned 50 last year, 51 today, no big changes, still introverted as ever, and back to my hobby of editing again. Catherine and I celebrated 18 years of marriage which feels absurd to say because it feels like it's sped by. She's everything ❤️❤️❤️ Miles is 11 going on 16 with that mouth, a paleontology enthusiast, and now a Black belt in karate (very proud) 💪🏾❤️❤️❤️ After losing Pepper and our husky Rock, I wasn't the same for a while but we adopted another bonded pair Buddy and Georgia and recently celebrated our year anniversary with them. They're neurotic, energetic, cuddly and tons of trouble (in a good way, sometimes 😂) and they put a smile on my face every day. by @hitmanyr2k

Hey Big Red,

Thank you for spending the last few years of your life making our house feel like a home. I'll never forget when I first met you after traveling so far to come live with us. Pepper came out of the van first, and when I bent down to meet her, she gave me a quick kiss on the nose and then ran back to bark assertively at the driver until they brought you out in all your derpy glory.

You and Pepper had the love of a lifetime, and I miss the way you both would come thundering up the stairs and cram your giant bodies underneath my desk to keep my feet warm while I worked on cold winter days. Thank you, Big Bear, for staying on with us a little longer after we lost Pep and our hearts were so heavy. You stopped talking when she died but you had the absolute best husky voice and I miss our conversations.

You were a wonderful companion, even if you pooped in the middle of every intersection (even when cars were coming), went after black clothes like it was your job to cover the world in orange fuzz, and always tried to kiss me on the mouth with the absolute worst breath ever. I'll miss your giant bear paws and the sound of your breath from under the dinner table.

Yoga will never be the same without being crammed between you and Pep... even if you stole my spot and never left me any space on the mat.

Thank you for sitting next to me quietly when I needed a friend. Thank you for tackling me in the front yard with your great, big, earnest love and nuzzling me as I lay helpless on the grass.

I will miss you something awful, my friend. My heart is truly broken but I am filled with immeasurable gratitude for the incredible network of humans it took to rescue you from the streets and save your lives so you could come age gracefully in a warm house, with a family and a roof over your head.

I know your body had been through so, so much but your heart was pure gold.

I’m so proud that we could give you peace and security in your last few years of life, and I am so grateful you had a good and beautiful death, surrounded in body and spirit by humans who loved you beyond measure.

It is truly the end of an era.

The first time I met Pepper I fell in love with her quirkiness instantly. It was impossible not to. She carried herself and stood upright with a regal demeanor not showing much emotion, but at the same time she knew how to love someone in her own way. The first thing she did was put her head in between my legs and just stood there while I laughed and rubbed her head and that was the way she said hello to me every single day. She was the most gentle soul I've had the pleasure of being around and was always an instant stress reliever. Just having her in the room snoring while I worked gave me a sense of relaxation and I would sometimes join her on the floor and cuddle her.

She took care of everyone in the house, taking turns going from Catherine's office to mine. We often competed for her company when working. She greeted Miles every day when he got home from camp or school and checked on him if he was upset, always made sure Rock ate first before she started eating, and fussed at him to get down the stairs to go outside which he answered back like they were an old married couple. When calling her over she would always do this comical neck roll before strutting over that never failed to make me laugh. If we were playing a board game she would always walk all over it and sometimes just sit on the board. She did it in a funny way that was impossible to get upset. My heart and head are heavy trying to process that she's not here with us. My comfort is that Pepper knew she was loved and spent her final moments surrounded by family talking about every day things as she drifted off into sleep. "Pep", "mama", "baby girl" was a once in a lifetime personality and companion who made a huge impact on our family and she'll be missed terribly ❤️❤️🐶❤️❤️ by @hitmanyr2k
