An open Valentine’s Day letter to Iran -
My motherland that I’ve never walked.
My mother tongue that I speak in stops & starts.
My culture that I’ll spend a lifetime trying to balance with my American identity.
There is so much keeping us apart, but my heart pumps because of you.

There was an amazing turn out at LA City Hall, for a Global Day of Action. The tenacious spirit of Iranians was present, a reflection of the greater human spirit that is under duress the globe over. Unlike any other protest I’ve witnessed, and despite the circumstances, people were moving together with joy & companionship.

My heart has carried a supersaturation of feeling these last few months, I could go on & on. Incredible joy & humor & hope, which I always try to lead with. Behind the scenes has been an equal amount of grief & heartbreak, which I am learning to be more forthcoming with.

What a privilege to have this body & breathe & to experience all this lifetime has to offer.

Last night, I rewatched All That Jazz, a film that has intensely influenced my work in the past and continues to do so in the present. It made me miss theatre, and specifically miss all of the wonderful people I collaborated with on this production of MACHINAL!

For about the past month I’ve been learning how to whittle/dremel and construct joints, resulting in this funny little hermit potion master. He needs a number of modifications already, and I haven’t completely worked out the rod movements, but it has been so fun seeing him come to life 🧙🏼‍♂️ by @hladini.shakti
