There are many built-in features on your phone that can make traveling so much easier, smoother, and better overall experience.

Here is a tip that I use all the time and most of my friends are shocked when I tell them about this travel tip that's right in their pocket (or purse). Is free and no need to download any apps- it's already built into your phone.

Hotel staff members should never say your room number out loud.

When/ if this privacy mishap happens (usually by new or inexperienced staff members) calmly request another room and new card/ key. Be sure it's a different room/ card.

Asking for an upgrade AT the front desk when you arrive,
will surely give you the hotel's easiest answer: the hotel is full. (actually, it may just be a busy moment and the hotel crew member may just need to get through the line.)

It's better to call the hotel directly 2 days before your arrival and give them 1 or 2 preferences to add to your reservation- but never say/ use the word upgrade.

Keep your request to 1 or 2 preferences to make it "easy" to add to your reservation while they're still assigning your room. If you booked through a 3rd-party site, still call the hotel directly- they're the one assigning your room.

There is no guarantee that your preference (or a possible upgrade) will be granted- the room STILL has to be available. But this is the best time to shoot your shot, NOT at the front desk upon check-in.

Why? At the front desk, they may be busy and now you're asking them to search and change some things that are already there which takes up time and effort.
