Chintz is derived from the Hindi word 'chinnt' which means 'spotted', 'speckled' or 'sprayed'.

Chintz and calico go hand in hand and have remained major textiles in the fashion industry. Many museums have preserved textiles and pieces of chintz as proof of fashion evolution!

The Constant Robbery Of South Asian Culture!

For generations, South Asian heritage has been exploited—from colonial trade monopolies to modern micro-trends. Today, major brands continue to cherry-pick traditional craftsmanship, strip away its origin, and market it under whitewashed names.

Even after facing major backlash, not many brands own up to their mistake and apologize. It's questionable that collective voices alone can't make a difference!

When brands erase the ethnic roots of these designs, they bypass the ethical obligation to credit and compensate the artisans who built these traditions. It's time to speak up, hold brands accountable, and proudly own our identity.
