A couple of spiny tiger #shrimp (Phyllognathia ceratophthalma) spotted recently on a dive in #tulamben #bali. These tiny colourful critters are always fun to spot while diving!

A lovely purple fringe to this #mexichromis #multituberculata #nudibranch seen sliding its way across the black volcanic sand in #tulamben #bali. I love the fact that after all the dives I've done here in the Amed-Tulamben area, I still return from almost every dive having seen something new and rare and weird and beautiful under the water (usually thanks to my amazing #uwmacro dive partner and guide @komang_adi_amed whose eyes are preternaturally sharp).

A large dominant female Clark's #anemonefish (Amphiprion clarkii) peers out from the embrace of her protective venomous anemone tentacles.

Clownfish have a size-based hierarchy, with the largest fish in a given anemone being the breeding female. If that female dies, the next-largest male changes sex to become the new breeding female.

Anemonefish, despite their diminutive size, protect their anemone home fiercely, and will charge at much bigger fish to keep them away. I have had them nip at my fingers and bang into my mask when I got too close to their home.

This is the second of two species commonly seen in Lipah Bay, alongside yesterday's featured species, the false clown anemonefish. Clark's is darker and grows larger than the false clown.

A trio of false clown anemonefish (Amphiprion ocellaris) swimming above their host anemone, trying to scare off the big scary scuba diver with a huge camera trying to take photos of them. What they lack in size, they make up for in feisty attitude. Lipah, Bali.

A lovely (and unusually pale and white-coloured) leaf scorpionfish (Taenianotus triacanthus). We found him in Lipah Bay, our local dive site here on the NE coast of Bali, right across the street from our house. It had been several years since we had found a leaf scorpionfish in Lipah, so we were glad to see this fellow!

A few photos from our week on remote Rodrigues Island, far to the east of the main island of Mauritius. Hiking, swimming and hanging out with giant tortoises!

A few photos from our June trip to tiny #ladigue island in the #seychelles. La Digue is a small mound of pink granite out in the middle of the Indian Ocean, and has some lovely beaches and hiking.

A few photos from a boat excursion from #maun #botswana back in January. Saakje and I loved the sense of open space along the river, giving a teasing hint of what lies upstream in the heart of the #okavango Delta. Great weather, lovely light and tons of birds, including these #openbill storks.
