We had the honor to present HMVC Gallery at the True North exhibition, which celebrated Nordic arts and artists in honor of Earth Day.The event brought together a myriad of artistic forms, ranging from music, dance, theater, and film to painting and sculpture, each highlighting the remarkable talents of Nordic artists residing in New York. @nordicartistsofnewyork The fusion of artistic expression and cultural exchange brought about by our partnership with the event’s organizer Nordic Artists of New York (NANY) has been truly inspiring and enriching. Their commitment to showcasing the unique voices and perspectives of Nordic artists in New York has not only contributed to the appreciation of Nordic arts, but broadened the vision of Nordic nations and their unique cultures to the visitors of True North. It was an honor to have the opportunity to partner with such a vibrant and innovative organization. The exchange of ideas and artistic insights that have arisen from our partnership have undoubtedly left a lasting impression on all of us involved with True North.True North’s virtual art show will run on our website until May 22, 2025.https://hmvcgallery.com/exhibitions-collaborations/We’d like to extend a big HMVC thank you to those who attended the event, and a big bear hug to NANY and their other partners for arranging the event. It is our pleasure to introduce "The Summer Collection" group show's Third Prize Jody Nelson! @jodynelsonartJody Nelson is a Palm Desert, California-based mixed media artist whose layered, luminous paintings have been featured in juried exhibitions and both group and solo shows, with original work available through Saatchi Art and held in private collections across the United States and Canada. Drawn to expressive color, richly built-up surfaces, and the emotional resonance of still moments, her paintings transform the quiet textures of everyday life into bold, joyful works. Working in acrylic, pastel, and collage, Nelson builds each painting through layers of torn paper and mark-making, creating surfaces that carry their own history before the figure arrives. Each piece balances energy with calm — an ongoing invitation to pause, to notice, and to find beauty in the ordinary."I paint women in the quiet moments — not the moments the world sees, but the ones that happen in between. The exhale after the effort. The stillness that arrives when we finally stop moving long enough to feel something. My work is built in layers — torn paper, acrylic, pastel, and mark-making — each surface carrying its own history before the figure arrives. The women I paint are never performing. They are resting, remembering, belonging to themselves and to each other. Emotion, for me, lives in the body before it reaches the face. In shoulders that relax. In feet sinking into warm sand. In a chin lifted toward the sun."#bestinshow #colorfulart #onlineartshow #virtualartshow #womenart #mixedmediaart by @hmvcgallery

It is our pleasure to introduce "The Summer Collection" group show's Second Prize winner Jim Slavik! @dogoodart_by_jim_slavikJim Slavik is a visual artist whose work is defined by the profound synergy between creativity and philanthropy. While he cultivated his early passion for drawing, charcoal, and acrylics throughout his youth, a successful career in finance defined his professional life. Upon retiring and relocating to Colorado, Slavik formally began his "next act." He reignited his artistic journey by enrolling in a soft pastel class in early 2023, channeling his energy into capturing the transient light and majesty of his new home.Since then, his work has been accepted into numerous juried shows and featured in charitable fundraisers. This artistic commitment is formalized through Do Good Art, a mission-driven practice where he donates 100% of the net proceeds from every piece sold. His charity focuses include cancer research and causes dedicated to the Colorado community. Through his pastels and other mediums, Slavik aims to inspire beauty while contributing to a more compassionate and equitable world."My art is a direct reflection of my two-part mission: to celebrate the natural world and to Do Good Through Art. Drawing inspiration from solitary travels—whether hiking the mountains of Colorado or exploring remote National Parks—I seek to capture the profound stillness and transient light of the landscapes that move me. I focus intensely on the interplay of light and shadow, using soft pastels to translate the drama of skies, the serenity of water, and the intimate details of wildlife and wildflowers. Each finished piece is an invitation to pause, breathe, and reconnect with the quiet beauty of the outdoors.Soft pastels are my primary medium, valued for their immediate, tactile richness and unique ability to layer luminous color. I also utilize watercolor and colored pencil, selecting the medium that best captures the distinct character and spirit of each subject. This deep reverence for nature extends beyond the canvas: my work is driven by the commitment to Do Good Through Art."#bestinshow #natureart #onlineartshow #virtualartshow #pastelart by @hmvcgallery

It is our pleasure to introduce "The Summer Collection" group show's First Prize winner Bobbi Baugh! @bobbibaughartBobbi Baugh creates collaged and stitched art quilts focusing on symbol-based storytelling; beyond the design and texture of the surface, layers of meaning and a narrative of personal journey are revealed.Bobbi lives in DeLand, Florida. A graduate of Stetson University (B.A. studio art and speech communication, 1976; M.A.T. Education/Humanities, 1979), Bobbi discovered the world of textile artwork around 2010, following a career of 35+ years in commercial printing and graphic design. Drawing on the basics she received as an undergraduate art major, Bobbi became a self-taught textile artist. Her work is created from original fabrics created through low-tech, hands-on surface design methods using acrylic paints. She limits her working methods to applying acrylic paints and mediums to a limited range of fabrics: primarily unbleached cotton muslin and sheer polyester. She works with a limited palette, mixing all her colors to create a unified vocabulary of work. Bobbi constructs her quilts and does all the quilting on one of two small, portable Pfaff sewing machines. Construction techniques vary depending on the work and the composition. Generally, Bobbi creates and quilts in small sections, then joins those sections in the final composition."Hot sun. Salty skin. Cool water against your feet. And ice cold ice cream. Components of an innocent Florida memory. Hand printed (monotypes and relief prints) with acrylic paint on sheer fabrics and muslin, collaged and stitched construction, with machine-stitched details. Finishing: bound fabric-backed. The back has a hanging pocket and a rod for traditional hanging tapestry presentation. All collaging is with archival matte acrylic medium, which is also used over the surface."#bestinshow #colorfulart #onlineartshow #virtualartshow #collageart #artquilts by @hmvcgallery

We are happy to announce that Mital Patel, our Solo Show winner from “Within One Color” premieres his show today. Mital’s show runs from July 1 - 31, 2026 on our website https://www.hmvcgallery.com/exhibitions-solo/ (LINK IN BIO).Mital Patel is a fine art photographer whose work explores the relationship between form, minimalism, and emotional presence in natural environments. His imagery often focuses on isolating subjects within vast landscapes, using light, scale, and restraint to create a sense of stillness and contemplation.Working across wildlife and remote environments, Patel’s recent work has shifted toward more minimal and conceptual interpretations of nature, where composition and tonal control play a central role. His work has been exhibited and recognized internationally, with a growing focus on fine art presentation and gallery-based storytelling."Ice exists in a narrow spectrum of tone, where color is restrained, and form becomes the primary language. In this body of work, I explore the Arctic as a study in subtle variation shifts in light, texture, and scale within a limited palette. Each image isolates a different presence: dominance, stillness, and quiet transience. The restrained blues and greys are not just aesthetic choices, but a way to remove distraction and focus attention on structure and atmosphere.By working within a singular color space, the landscape becomes less about place and more about perception, where form, silence, and scale begin to dissolve into something introspective."Visit @mitalpatelphoto to view Mital’s other artworks.
