Great vibes at the last Lempke SOTA. Big shout out to @lempke_eindhoven and his crew for organizing and respect for what he has done for the street art scene so far.

Fascinated by abstract lines and organic structures, me and @tiagohesp developed a shared visual repertoire that resulted in the exhibition ‘Inbetween’ at @kevn_hq last year. This collaborative approach to drawing also forms the basis for this mural. Over the past year, they have further developed their individual styles, which you can see fluidly merging in the design for this black and white wall. As a result, this mural is not only a marker of their established creative friendship but also a cartography of mutual influence, featuring a personal touch from both artists. The Inbetween mural is a collage of abstract drawings and shapes that emerged from HMX and Hesp's creative search for a shared visual language. The 70-meter-long wall creates a captivating interaction with the industrial surroundings of Strijp-S, the former Philips factory site.

Their design and daring explosion of colours fit well with the character of Eindhoven, which highly values the courage and freedom to experiment. HMX and Hesp feel honored to have this mural in the city that was at the forefront of the postmodern graffiti movement, featuring artists who are a great inspiration for their way of thinking and working.

🟡 |PT| Queremos agradecer a todos os que estiveram presentes na inauguração de STEELBORN – Phase III: Welcome Baby Party e especialmente aos artistas, @hmx_artwork & @tiagohesp , que aceitaram o desafio de estender esta parceria artística até Lisboa. Foi um final de tarde muito especial.

Esta mostra continuará patente até dia 14 de agosto, de segunda a sexta-feira, das 11h às 19h, e aos sábados, das 11h às 18h.

🟡 |PT| 17 JULHO | STEELBORN – Phase III: Welcome Baby Party de HMX & Tiago Hesp

Ao longo de vários anos, @hmx_artwork (Países Baixos, 1975) e @tiagohesp (Portugal, 1981) desenvolveram uma linguagem visual partilhada, moldada pela experimentação e pelo diálogo, ultrapassando os limites das suas práticas individuais. As bases desta colaboração foram lançadas durante "Inbetween", uma exposição realizada na galeria Kelderman en van Noort, em Eindhoven, onde ambos os artistas se aproximaram deliberadamente, superando as suas diferenças para se encontrarem num espaço comum.

Deste processo nasceu uma linguagem visual partilhada que as colaborações seguintes, incluindo a realização de murais nos Países Baixos, levaram para além de uma afinidade estética. HMX e Tiago Hesp descrevem este processo como uma "terceira mente", uma forma coletiva de pensar e criar.

É deste encontro entre dois percursos, duas linguagens e uma visão comum que nasce STEELBORN – Phase III: Welcome Baby Party, a terceira fase de uma colaboração artística em contínua evolução, que passa agora por Lisboa.

🟡 |EN| JULY 17 | STEELBORN – Phase III: Welcome Baby Party by HMX & Tiago Hesp

Over the years, HMX (The Netherlands, 1975) and Tiago Hesp (Portugal, 1981) have developed a shared visual language shaped by experimentation and dialogue, moving beyond the boundaries of their individual practices. The foundations of this collaboration were laid during "Inbetween", an exhibition held at Kelderman en van Noort gallery in Eindhoven, where both artists deliberately moved toward one another, bridging their differences to meet in a shared space.

Through this process, a common visual language emerged. Subsequent collaborations, including the creation of murals across the Netherlands, carried this exchange beyond a mutual aesthetic. HMX and Tiago Hesp describe it as a "third mind", a collective way of thinking and designing.

It is from the meeting of these two artistic paths, two visual languages, and a shared vision that STEELBORN – Phase III: Welcome Baby Party emerges, the third phase of an ongoing artistic collaboration, now making its way to Lisbon. taken in Lisboa by @hmx_artwork

🟡 |PT| STEELBORN – Phase III: Welcome Baby Party marca a terceira fase do processo artístico desenvolvido por @hmx_artwork e @tiagohesp : uma exploração da autoria, da transformação e da rendição.

Ao longo de anos de colaboração, os artistas desenvolveram uma linguagem visual partilhada, uma "terceira mente", uma forma coletiva de pensar e criar. Em STEELBORN, esse diálogo materializa-se através do aço automóvel recuperado, onde o momento do impacto se torna um espaço de liberdade criativa e revela a beleza do imprevisível.

Depois de pintadas, as peças são submetidas a um compactador industrial. Neste momento decisivo, os artistas abdicam do controlo e acolhem a incerteza como um colaborador essencial no processo criativo. Da combinação entre intenção e acaso nascem os Steelborns , obras que assumem uma identidade própria, para além da vontade dos seus criadores.

Over years of collaboration, the artists have developed a shared visual language, a "third mind", a collective way of thinking and creating. In STEELBORN, this dialogue takes shape through reclaimed automotive steel, where the moment of impact becomes a space of creative freedom, revealing the beauty of the unpredictable.

Once painted, the metal parts are subjected to an industrial metal crusher. At this decisive stage, the artists relinquish control, embracing uncertainty as an essential collaborator in the creative process. From the combination of intention and chance, the Steelborns emerge, works that take on an identity of their own, beyond the intentions of their creators.

If you walk through Eindhoven, you can't miss it: the well-known sticker with the smiling light bulb from @lempke_eindhoven. The man behind it has put in the necessary miles to distribute his sticker, both nationally and internationally. His sticker and paper pastes, among other things, were the inspiration for me to start sticking stickers myself and to view the street as a canvas. He introduced me to the street art scene and thus contributed to who I am today. He has also always dedicated himself to the scene by organizing all kinds of events. So many years later, we have finally collaborated. Consider it a celebration of pride in the city and its streets where we took our first steps in street art. by @hmx_artwork
