Moss stick or Coco Poles DIY 🤎

What do you generally use for supporting vines and pothos?
I have been making my own coco poles using coconut fibers and jute ropes. I have used old tube lights, discarded PVC pipes. You can use wooden dowels or bamboo sticks too. These coco poles provide sturdy natural support to the plant. They are a natural and sustainable option.

The porous nature of coconut fibers allow good air circulation and the fibers provide moisture retention, helps to keep the plant hydrated. I fully wet the coco poles once in every 10 days. They allow plants to attach and supports aerial growth. The roots intertwine with the coir well creating a strong robust root structure. They also provide a naturally aesthetic look and maximise space utilisation. They are good both indoor and outdoor plants.

How to do?
Collect few coconut fibers received from coconuts, separate the fibers and coco peat. Discard the cocopeat, use the fibers. Thickly hold the coconut fibers around the PVC pipes pr old tube lights and tightly wrap the jute ropes around. Leave 4-5” space at the bottom for easy fixing and preventing fungal growth on the coir. These sticks stay good for more than 3 years.

Coir being a natural and biodegradable material, an environmental friendly option. I always try to recycle and reuse materials to reduce my trash.

This is a routine view everyday in the neighbourhood apartment whenever the over head tank is full and over flowing. The pigeons find so much relief to shower themselves and enjoy the time. It’s always a pleasure to watch them enjoying 😍

Like humans, all living creatures need water to quench the thirst and their essential needs. I do leave a bowl of water in my balcony for them. Sharing is caring ❤️
