Not me teaching my babies hobbit drinking songs 😂 by @hobbithobbyist

“I would rather spend one lifetime with you than face all the ages of this world alone.“ is this the romantic quote of all time?

I hope you enjoy this episode of *Lord of the Wings* and if you’re new here welcome to my fanciful reimagining of my favourite books/films! It’s the crossover between Tolkien and homesteading and just good old fashioned homeschooling weirdness you didn’t know you needed-Here on the Hobbitstead 🤣 by @hobbithobbyist

1. I was homeschooled k-12 (ok maybe no surprise there 😂). There was one other local homeschool girl who graduated the same year as me so we had a party at church. My mom and I made my grad dress inspired by Arwen (LotR)

2. I used to train race horses and was head “pooper scooper” at a really fancy stables.

3. I also raced dogsled for a few years and loved the sport and community.

3. I have a Teaching degree but quit once I became a mom. Now I homeschool our 4 kiddos.

4. I was in New Zealand for 5 months but never went to Hobbiton 😭

5. Once, on my way to watch the Return of the King in theatre, I crashed my car into the ditch to avoid a porcupine on the road. Car was totalled but me and my two brothers were ok and walked home.

6. I have a sewing needle embedded in the bone of my left foot. I have no idea how it got there but X-rays can prove it.

7. I had four kids in 3 years and the perinatal anxiety took me down a whole rabbit hole of self care for anxious moms. I chose to find strategies to cope rather than taking medication. No judgement I just didn’t want to deal with side effects.

8. I grew up very religious, was the ultimate good Christian girl but I left church and am on a very personal spiritual journey of healing. If you ever need a listening ear or encouragement on your own deconstruction of faith message me.

9. Among my many hobbies I am writing a book for my kids called “Emberly and the Merhorse”

10. I really love making content and meeting other nerdy moms. Thanks for being here!

Big thanks to all my friends I’ve made here 💕 by @hobbithobbyist

Part 3 of our costume series: Arwen Undòmiel

I made the crown and cloak! Dress was thrifted by my mother in law and the necklace is from Amazon.

Chickens and turkeys we raised ourselves, Pony’s name is Snowmane, Dog plays Boromir in Lord of the Wings.

Life on the Hobbitstead is good. by @hobbithobbyist

Thrifted shirt, pants, sword and belt. I made the cloak, bracers and the fur boot covers. He felt pretty comfortable and adventurous in this outfit for our hobbit party! by @hobbithobbyist

Happy October the 24th! by @hobbithobbyist

Hand made the dress from a pattern I drafted, embroidered the neckline, braided the belt, made the crown out of old jewelry and beads. While not completely accurate I was happy how this Eowyn costume turned out. My kids are all pretty rough and tumble (feral) so reusing materials and making the costumes as cheaply as possible with thrifted materials helps me not be too sad when it gets ripped out lost in the woods 🤣 She looked so lovely for our hobbit party 😍 I hope one of my girls wants to be Eowyn at Pelennor Fields next year! Making armour will be a new challenge. by @hobbithobbyist

Life on the Hobbitstead has really gotten busy:

- we are milking our Nanny goat!
- I am working on rehabilitating this new Mini: “Stybba Peanut McKay”
- I have another horse that needs daily bandaging
- I have been canning tomatoes like crazy
- we are busy like beavers prepping for winter
- homeschooling
-teaching 🐴 riding lessons
- I am still fighting to stop a huge pipeline from going through my community

As always, my critters and my art and my hobbit account bring me so much happiness so I thought I’d see if anyone else wanted to have some art from the Hobbitstead at their house.

I don’t think I’ll be back to regular posting yet but hopefully soon! Thanks for being the kindest nerds on the internet 🥰 by @hobbithobbyist

Thank you for engaging in my previous post and encouraging me to shirk my indoor chores like dishes and laundry to get this firewood split in style. Anything to avoid the endless cleaning inside while the weather is still warm outside 😂 by @hobbithobbyist

Please save me from the Mount Doom size pile of laundry!! Haha anyone else avoid the house work at all costs? But for real should I try my hand and splitting wood by sword dressed as Gandalf? Let me know by pressing all the buttons and commenting the silliest thing you’ve done this week. by @hobbithobbyist

This is what I wore to our Hobbit Party this year!! What do you think?

✨EXCITING HOBBITSTEAD NEWS✨ Our Nanny goat had her baby!!! A little boy! I’ll post pics in my stories 🥰 by @hobbithobbyist

I’m posting a quick update because I miss you all and I needed a little funny to help me through the actual gong show that was my week.

I took a break from social media to focus on a new routine for the kids and I, instead I found out the community I live in is in the middle of becoming the site of a Carbon Capture facility to produce Carbon Credits for Microsoft so that it can continue expanding its AI data centers. To say it mildly: I’m appalled. And angry. And wish to speak for the trees.

I am emailing and calling every government official or form of leadership I can find, I am asking questions and trying to educate my community member, most of whom are as in the dark as I was up until this week.

I also, brought home two horses that needed a new home. One is in bad shape and I have a vet appointment for him ASAP. The other I only had for a day and he somehow opened an old wound so badly that I will be bandaging it daily for 4-6 months.

But good news, the kids and I had a great first week of school, the weather has been fabulous, I have started canning my tomatoes and tomorrow we are hiking one of my favourite trails with my sister!

My sabbatical is still the plan but I also really appreciate the fun and humour and artistic outlet you all give me. Thanks for being the best and kindest people on the internet. by @hobbithobbyist
