POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I’m Tommy Birch, founder of House of Birch.
As a behavioural scientist and leadership advisor, I coach international executives, political figures, and high-performing individuals through their most consequential leadership challenges.

Alongside my performance coaching work, I maintain a second specialised niche in high-stakes relationship and couples coaching, helping singles and couples build, repair, and sustain deeply resilient partnerships.

By integrating neuroscience, cognitive science, behavioural psychology and relational dynamics across both fields, I help leaders sharpen their judgement under pressure while providing the behavioural architecture for genuine trust and connection at home. taken in London, United Kingdom by @hobcoaching

This one quote is constantly playing on my mind:

“The quality of your life ultimately depends on the quality of your relationships.”

— Esther Perel

We spend so much time optimising our routines, careers, and environments, yet our relational health remains the single biggest predictor of overall well being, resilience, and executive performance.

Research from the Harvard Study of Adult Development (Waldinger & Schulz, 2023), the longest running study on human health, reveals that strong relational quality is the single strongest driver of life satisfaction, cognitive function, and longevity, outperforming wealth, social class, and IQ.

So what defines a high quality relationship?

It comes down to four core benchmarks:

• Psychological Safety: The freedom to be authentic and vulnerable without fear of judgement or retaliation.

• Relational Agility: The ability to navigate conflict constructively and prioritise genuine repair over being right.

• Mutual Reciprocity: A balance of emotional support, active empathy, and shared investment in each other’s growth.

• Clear Boundaries: Explicit expectations that protect individual autonomy while deepening trust.

When your primary connections are secure and aligned, your capacity to handle high pressure expands exponentially. When they are not, even your greatest achievements feel diminished.

Client testimonial -

“I had the opportunity of having executive coaches in my +30 years career at VP level, but this is the first time I truly was impressed by the experience and impact a good coach can
have.

I went into my sessions with topics that I did not expect to really get this much new insights on. Tom however helped me through his natural style of coaching, and provide me with more clarity and insight than I would have expected.”

Is game theory really the best model for decision-making?

Here’s the part I keep coming back to with the leaders I work with. Incentives matter, but they are never the whole story, and neither is pure logic. Every person sitting across the table is running their own “private logic”, built from their own conditioning, their own emotional wiring, and their own circumstances, and no formula, however elegant, was ever built to capture that. Understanding the maths of a decision will only ever get you halfway. Understanding the person making it, feelings and all, is where the real advantage lives.

Tommy Birch works with leaders and executives to cut through noise, helping them reach genuine clarity and make sound, high-stakes decisions under real pressure.

“All problems are interpersonal relationship problems.” — Alfred Adler

Whether in executive leadership, high-performing teams, or personal partnerships, relational dynamics drive outcome quality. Adlerian psychology highlights a fundamental truth: our greatest challenges, and our greatest opportunities for growth, exist in how we connect, communicate, and navigate boundaries with others.

At House of Birch, executive and relationship coaching integrates evidence-based frameworks - including Adlerian Individual Psychology, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Gottman Method diagnostics, to help leaders and couples build psychological safety, resolve conflict, and foster genuine alignment.

Explore how science-backed coaching can transform your personal and professional relationships.

Purpose drives commitment,
carries you through the parts of a job, a relationship, or a goal that isn’t enjoyable in the moment.

Finding the reason you do what you do not only leads to better commitment, but also to a higher sense of fulfilment.

Btw, have you noticed what’s missing in the post? 😏

Why do powerful leaders suddenly lose control overnight?

Leadership collapse rarely happens out of nowhere—it is usually the final step in a slow, invisible erosion of co-operation. In this article, I explore why authority isn’t built on command, but on sustaining fragile coalitions.

Discover the hidden mechanics of quiet disengagement, defection cascades, and how to maintain collective momentum before confidence unravels.

The Biopsychosocial Coaching Method is unique to House of Birch. 🏛️🌳

This framework, developed by Tommy Birch, is engineered to move beyond the superficial and deliver true, in-depth behavioural transformation.

To achieve meaningful and sustainable high performance, we cannot look at a leader or an individual in isolation. Traditional coaching models often focus solely on cognitive or motivational cues.

Our method is deliberately architectural, addressing the unique confluence of an individual’s physiology, internal cognitive structures, and their external systems and environments.

We apply this rigorous Biopsychosocial diagnostic framework across the three primary aspects of life, as identified by Alfred Adler:

1. WORK (The Task of Occupation): Navigating leadership dynamics, executive judgement, resilience under pressure, and systemic performance.
2. LOVE (The Task of Intimacy): Repairing and strengthening high-stakes couples dynamics and relational attunement.
3. SOCIAL (The Task of Community): Optimising social status, collective influence, and systemic interpersonal dynamics.

True high performance and fulfillment are symbiotic.

By integrating the Biological, Psychological, and Sociological pillars, House of Birch provides the behavioural architecture for a completely holistic approach to success.

“Tommy has been helping me navigate the early stages of building a new business. His approach is very different from typical coaching, it’s focused, direct, and grounded in real-world decision-making.

He has a real ability to cut through noise and get to the core of the issue quickly, helping me think more clearly and act with greater conviction. The sessions aren’t about theory, they’re about sharpening judgement, improving how you operate under pressure, and making better decisions when it actually matters.” - Phil Baily, Founder and CEO of Elizabeth Homes, 2026 taken in London, United Kingdom by @hobcoaching

DECISION MAKING

The belief that elite leaders make decisions through pure, unfeeling logic has long been refuted by neurobiology experts.

As science fiction author Robert A. Heinlein said - “man is not a rational animal; he is a rationalising animal”.

The Evidence:
* Damasio (1996): Proved that damaging the ventromedial prefrontal cortex (vmPFC)—the hub for somatic feedback—leaves individuals incapable of effective decision-making, trapping them in endless analysis despite normal IQ.
* Bechara et al. (1997): Showed participants generated physical stress responses to high-risk choices before consciously realising those choices were dangerous. The body calculated threat before the mind could articulate it.
* Dunn et al. (2010): Demonstrated that individual interoceptive accuracy (reading internal body signals) dictates whether physical feedback sharpens or distorts judgement under uncertainty.
Suppressing bodily signals doesn’t make you more logical; it deprives your brain of critical computational data.
