Cova da Moura - Dexa Mundo Papia exhibition @bar.bario in Amsterdam. Thank you for visiting and supporting 💖 It was special to show this project in my hometown. Thanks @schdurga for providing such a special space to show this project. Thankful for everyone who stopped by and who felt touched by the project in some way. I feel grateful for all the encounters and exchanges, and feel inspired and energised to continue sharing this story. It was extra special that the Amsterdam launch of this project - which sheds light on the nowadays effects of colonial times - was during Keti Koti, the commemoration of the abolition of slavery in Surinam and the former Dutch Antilles. There is still such a long way to go to equality in nowadays western societies and I hope this projects contributes to the awareness regarding this subject. Next stop for this project is to exhibit it in Cova da Moura this summer. The place where the work was made and where it belongs ✨Forever grateful to the inhabitants of Cova da Moura for always welcoming me, sharing your stories, and collaborating with me on this project 💛Special thanks to Pef, @guidobngrs @z_inna_______________flo @arjen.roos @isabellahodge_ @_evemichelle @louizavanherp for helping me out to bring this exhibit in Amsterdam to live. MY FIRST COVER! I am so excited to finally share this one. When I got asked to shoot an editorial for @elle_nl I was thrilled. That they chose one of the pictures for the cover was such a special reward. Meet Marie-Louise Hodge (@hodgemarie), one of this year’s Talent Embassy participants.Marie-Louise is an Amsterdam-based artist and photographer whose work centers on the stories and expressions of Black diaspora communities. Inspired by the stories her mother shared about their family’s roots in Suriname and Curaçao, and shaped by early influences in fashion and dance, her practice celebrates culture, identity, and resilience.While studying photography at Ar.Co in Lisbon, she began to explore visual storytelling as a tool to uncover and connect untold narratives within diasporic communities. Her work traces cultural similarities between places like Cape Verde and the ABC Islands, offering new perspectives on identity, heritage, and shared histories that have often gone undocumented.Through photographs of clothing, architecture, jewelry, and community gatherings, Marie-Louise sheds light on how contemporary Black cultures express themselves across different geographies—drawing attention to their individuality, but also their deep interconnection.
