Sound Differences Between DAWs? Audio Myth Busted! 🎧

It is surprising how many people still believe the myth that different DAWs inherently sound different. However, modern DAWs use largely standardized mathematical processing, typically with 32- or 64-bit floating-point calculations. With identical audio files and settings, the result should therefore be virtually identical.

Differences can still occur, for example due to different pan laws, resampling algorithms, automation behavior, default settings or the stock plug-ins being used. So what is often perceived as a DAW’s own “sound” is usually more a result of its settings and workflow than of the audio engine itself.

Tacheles in the HOFA-Studios
The klezmer band Tacheles is currently recording more than 20 songs of traditional instrumental music (clarinet, violin, accordion, double bass) with Senior Audio Engineer Jochen Weyer at the HOFA-Studios.

Over the weekend, we recorded a song at the HOFA-Studios for our new 3D Audio online course. Audio engineer Christoph Thiers and HOFA-College tutor Julian Moritz pulled out all the stops.

Over the past few weeks, the band APROPOS has been recording at HOFA-Studios. For their upcoming album, the songs were first recorded live together, followed by overdubs, editing, mixing, and mastering. Afterwards, our video team also produced the music videos.
