This summer I was able to visit the Ounce Pistol factory in Oklahoma. Most of the parts are made under one roof, including the injection molds used to make the few plastic parts. What would ordinarily be considered a prototype molding press has no issues keeping up with production of the small parts, everything being optimized for quick part removal and simple two piece molds.

The metal parts are milled using extraordinarily small tools in some cases. The big take away for me is how much is possible with clever tool paths on on otherwise regular milling machine.

I was also able to see the original wood mock up from over a decade ago. The vision of the Ounce was remarkably close to the final product.

For those who don't know, the Ounce is a small folding 22 LR pistol that fires 11 rounds semi automatically. An incredible gun and the one I carry.

OEM CMMG trip and mass. I tried this with the Trigger Kicker the other day with some success. The trip was a bit short and required some bending to the tab, but worked fine after that.

There were no bounce issues, but short stroking was a problem. I lightly oiled the bolts belly and it almost eliminated the issue, but still would short stroke if you pulled the trigger with enough force.

Back at the shop I further polished the parts, and will update when I retest. The addition of the anti bounce mass combined with the Kicker is slowing the bolt down enough where this becomes an issue. I'll try with no weight as well.

I was unable to find a clean system for final connection of large three phase equipment, so put this together. Mounts are printed in Polycarbonate for temp resistance (no carbon fiber for obvious reasons).

The Selective Trigger Kicker has been a rather rocky road. My goal is to keep it very low cost, compatible with almost all hammers and triggers, while still being robust.

The original design was rather conventional and ended up requiring a modified hammer to work reliably, this was unacceptable and required a complete redesign. It's taken a while to figure out the very complex geometry, but we now have a working prototype that meets all requirements.

I have a few more design iterations to make, and then it's onto manufacturing refinements. I'm hoping to have a detail timeline and cost structure done next month.

In the mean time we have regular Kickers in stock on our site and with a few dealers. Finally got production up to speed on those!

Back in early July I built this machine to help catch up on Kicker production. Prior to this I was using a manual press and single die.

This adds the required bend to the Kickers before heat treatment.

Finally got some Schmid hammers in, very pretty. For some odd reason no one was selling them outside of a kit, so I now have them listed on the website as the go to Kicker compatible hammer.

Keep in mind that many other hammers are also compatible, it's just the Schmid's are easy to spot and work great.

While we wait for the website to be fully repaired, now is a good time to checkout what hammers are compatible with the Kicker. On the left is a standard semiauto hammer, on the right is a semi-auto hammer made by removing the auto sear catch from a full auto hammer. The Kicker was designed for the former, not the latter.

You can spot the incompatible hammers by looking for the smooth milled surface. Also, look at the radius at the tip of the tail, it should be full. If truncated and not tangent, as is the right hammer, it is probably not compatible.

A compatible hammer will look just like the one on the left.
