Building Connected Communities | The Art of Platforms & Stairs

Communities thrive when people are given places to pause, meet and connect. Across our projects, platforms and planting are used as architectural tools that transform workplaces into vibrant social landscapes.

At Booking.com, ING Cedar, and Reykjavik Energy Headquarters, elevated platforms create destinations throughout the building, offering a variety of settings for collaboration, informal meetings and focused work. Integrated greenery softens these environments, bringing nature closer to everyday life while creating moments of calm within dynamic workplaces.

These spaces encourage movement and spontaneous encounters. Each platform becomes part of a larger journey through the building, where architecture supports interaction, wellbeing and a strong sense of community.

Building Connected Communities is a continuing series exploring the design principles that shape our projects. Through architecture, interior design and landscape, we create places where people naturally come together. by @hofmandujardin

Aegon Schiphol | Connection Through Architecture

The Aegon Schiphol office for Corporate Center and Asset Management is designed around movement, connection and human interaction. At the centre of the workplace, a series of expressive red staircases and spatial voids create a continuous architectural journey that connects people, perspectives and activities across the building.

Rather than simply linking different floors, the stairs shape the daily experience of the workplace. Strong visual connections and intuitive routes encourage employees to move naturally through the building, creating opportunities for spontaneous encounters and collaboration along the way.

The architectural journey balances openness with clarity. Dynamic communal spaces are carefully connected to quieter work environments, allowing collaboration and concentration to exist alongside one another without compromise.

By transforming circulation into experience, the design demonstrates how architecture can actively strengthen connection and create a workplace centred around people. by @hofmandujardin

Aegon Schiphol | A Workplace in Balance

The Aegon Schiphol office is designed to support different ways of working throughout the day. Generous, light-filled spaces encourage collaboration and transparency, while more grounded environments provide calm, acoustically comfortable settings for concentration and privacy.
Rather than separating these functions, the workplace carefully layers them throughout the building. Employees can move naturally between collaborative spaces, meeting rooms and focused work environments, choosing the setting that best supports their task and mindset.

Material choices, colour accents and carefully considered sightlines create a consistent architectural language that feels both open and refined. Every space contributes to a workplace that is flexible, intuitive and centred around the needs of its users.

The result is an environment where collaboration and focus exist in balance, supporting both individual performance and collective success. by @hofmandujardin

Aegon Schiphol | Hospitality at Work

Hospitality is an integral part of the Aegon Schiphol workplace. Located on the entrance floor, the restaurant and coffee bar form the social heart of the building, creating a welcoming environment where employees naturally come together throughout the day.

Designed as a shared living room, the space supports informal meetings, daily conversations and moments of exchange that strengthen connections across the organisation. The workplace extends beyond individual desks, encouraging people to meet, collaborate and build community.

Warm materials, generous daylight and carefully positioned colour accents create an atmosphere that feels open, comfortable and inviting. Clear sightlines reinforce the connection between spaces while maintaining a human scale throughout the interior.

Rembrandt Park One | Bolenius

At the Rembrandtpark, Bolenius brings a new public destination to Rembrandt Park One. Located within the glass pavilion overlooking the water, the restaurant strengthens the connection between the building, the landscape and the city, inviting both office users and visitors to experience the park throughout the day.

The pavilion forms an essential part of the redevelopment, activating the ground floor with hospitality and creating a welcoming environment that extends beyond the workplace. Large transparent façades frame panoramic views of the surrounding greenery, while generous terraces blur the boundary between inside and outside.

Designed as part of the sustainable transformation of the former Ringpark building, the restaurant reflects the ambition to create a more open, connected and vibrant destination. Hospitality becomes an integral part of the architecture, encouraging people to meet, linger and engage with the park in new ways.

By combining workplace, public space and high-quality hospitality, Rembrandt Park One demonstrates how adaptive reuse can transform an existing office building into a lively place that contributes to the wider city. by @hofmandujardin

Rembrandt Park One | Adaptive Reuse

The transformation of Rembrandt Park One demonstrates how existing buildings can be reimagined for a more sustainable future. Rather than replacing the original structure, the design preserves its architectural qualities while introducing new layers that respond to contemporary ways of working and gathering.
The 24,000 m² redevelopment combines flexible office spaces with public functions including restaurants, a coffee bar, co-working areas and a glass pavilion overlooking the water. These shared facilities activate the ground floor and create a lively destination for both building users and visitors.

Inside, the expressive concrete structure and generous ceiling heights define the workplace, while warm materials and soft tones create an inviting atmosphere for collaboration and informal encounters. The sustainable renovation achieved a BREEAM® Excellent certification, proving that adaptive reuse can preserve architectural heritage while creating workplaces designed for the future. by @hofmandujardin

Rembrandt Park One | Connecting City and Park

Originally designed in 1967, Rembrandt Park One has been transformed into a sustainable, high-end office building that strengthens the relationship between Amsterdam West and the surrounding Rembrandtpark.

The redevelopment builds upon the character of the existing structure while introducing new connections between city and nature, work and leisure, and public and private space. A new passage through the building, transparent ground floor façades and a bridge across the pond create an open and inviting environment that reconnects the park with the surrounding neighbourhood.

The addition of two lightweight glass floors and a new waterside pavilion gives the landmark a renewed identity while respecting its architectural heritage. Together, these interventions create a vibrant destination where people can work, meet and enjoy the park throughout the day.

Commissioned by Boelens de Gruyter and Round Hill Capital, the redevelopment forms part of the wider KCAP masterplan for the south-west edge of Rembrandtpark. by @hofmandujardin

Fundis House | Timber Structure & Flexibility

A carefully designed timber structure forms the foundation of Fundis House.

The rhythm of the wooden columns and beams is directly aligned with the flexible use of the office, creating a strong relationship between architecture, workplace layout and user experience. Each structural bay accommodates either workstations or meeting spaces, ensuring maximum adaptability over time.
This logic extends throughout the building. Lighting, technical systems, floor finishes and furniture layouts all follow the same structural rhythm, creating clarity and coherence across every layer of the design.

The visible timber structure not only contributes to flexibility and sustainability, but also creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere that supports wellbeing and productivity. by @hofmandujardin

Kora Maresía | Between Ocean & Courtyard

Kora Maresía creates a unique holiday experience where endless ocean views meet the intimacy of a lush communal courtyard.
Located along the coastline of Lanzarote, the development consists of a series of three-storey apartment buildings carefully positioned to respond to the landscape and maximize views towards the Atlantic Ocean.

At the heart of the resort lies a generous green courtyard centered around a large swimming pool. This protected oasis offers a contrasting spatial experience to the vast openness of the sea and creates a welcoming environment for relaxation and social interaction.

Together, the oceanfront setting and the shared courtyard establish a strong sense of place that is deeply connected to the unique landscape of Lanzarote. by @hofmandujardin

Westpoort Heerhugowaard | A New Urban Vision

Westpoort introduces a new urban vision for Heerhugowaard where living, working and leisure come together around a generous new park landscape.

Designed by HofmanDujardin, the masterplan transforms the western edge of the city into a vibrant and sustainable neighborhood that responds carefully to its surroundings. The scale of the urban blocks gradually transitions between neighboring residential areas and the adjacent business park, creating a coherent and human-centered urban fabric.

Varying building heights and densities create a diverse living environment while strengthening the identity of different parts of the neighborhood. The result is a future-oriented district that combines urban vitality with a strong connection to nature.

Westpoort is designed as an important new destination for Heerhugowaard and its wider region, offering a balanced environment where people can live, work and meet. by @hofmandujardin

Campus Linz | The Journey

The new headquarters campus for Raiffeisenlandesbank Oberösterreich in Linz is designed around movement, connection and human interaction.

A spacious central atrium forms the social heart of the building and connects people, functions and destinations throughout the campus. Inviting communal stairs spiral upwards from the main entrance towards the rooftop terraces, creating visual relationships across all floors and encouraging natural interaction between employees throughout the day.

The building is conceived as a three dimensional architectural journey where each platform introduces a unique atmosphere focused on collaboration, wellbeing and exchange. Open community spaces transition gradually into quieter work environments, creating a balanced rhythm between activity and focus.

As part of this continuous journey, a lush indoor garden is positioned on the third floor as a calm and restorative environment immersed in greenery and natural light. Intimate workplaces and informal meeting areas are surrounded by generous planting and soft organic forms that strengthen the connection between people, architecture and nature.
