The Five of Diamonds in my Story Deck is one I call The Hunchbacks of Rathgrumley.
Most people probably associate this story with Knockgraffon hill because of T. Crofton Croker.
But it's common for stories like this to become attached to multiple locations and I happened to stumble on one in the NFC connected to Rathgrumley in south Kildare.

This is an interesting one.

On the one hand it's a bit sticky. The fairies use disability as a punishment which pulls pretty hard into ableism. I sometimes use this one to emphasise that, contrary to popular opinion, fairies in folklore are often MORE inclined towards bigotry and prejudice than humans, not less and "escaping to the fairy world" would likely just make your problems way worse.

On the other hand:
This story is very clearly about what we would today call "Session Etiquette".
And that's fascinating by @hoganddice

The Four of Diamonds in my Story Deck is the creation of the Giant's Causeway.
Another one so well known and do commonly told it's impossible to remember where I first got it.
I did this for a crowd of kid's earlier and asked them who they thought the hero was, not a single one said Fionn Mac Cumhaill was the hero, they all said the hero was his wife, Sadhbh.

So I suppose there is some hope for the future by @hoganddice

The Three of Diamonds in my Story Deck is Stingey Jack.
This is supposedly the origin of the Jack O'Lantern and is one of those stories where I've heard it so often from so many people I can't possibly remember which one was first by @hoganddice

These are some very common mistakes in talking about Irish Folklore and myth.

Have you made any of these mistakes? Can you think of similar mistakes you may have made in the past you want other people to steer clear of?

Quick clarification: I think the term Dullahan itself probably has perfectly legitimate origins, just not as a generic term for Headless Horsemen. by @hoganddice

The Two of Diamonds in my Story Deck is an example of how a popular folktale can get attached to multiple locations.
This particular instance is about the Devil appearing in Castletown house in Kildare and being recognised by his hooves, but there's variants attached to Loftus Hall in Wexford, the Hellfire Club in Dublin and probably numerous other locations throughout Europe. by @hoganddice

A TWIST!👺 We are so excited to add another alluring act to our bill next week: Introducing @hoganddice! 💚💜❤️
Once described as being like “a lovely loaf of fresh baked bread served at a satanic orgy” Fáin is an oral storyteller with a multidisciplinary background who loves to discuss the bizarre, the subversive and the deviant while creating an atmosphere of comfort, safety and comradery. Fáin studied Irish Folklore at UCD, laboured in the story mines of The National Leprechaun Museum, and has performed as part of Pride of the Déise, the Comeragh Wilds Festival, Dublin’s Finest, founded and runs the Rookery Storytelling club in Dublin and has performed as part of various fundraisers for LGBTQ+ and Disability organisations. Their influences include Growler, Carisa Hendrix, Tom Waits, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins and the local crows. by @hoganddice

The Ace of Diamonds in my Story Deck is a good example of just how regional folklore can be.
It tells a story about Mickey Roberts, a magician and trouble maker.
duchas.ie only has three entries about him, all from the area where Carlow, Kildare and Laois meet.
These entries are remarkably consistent with each other suggesting he was once a popular figure in the area. There's even some people today who claim him as an ancestor. by @hoganddice
