Missed Opportunity: A Lesson in Timely Follow-Up

The relationship manager was out with a colleague, actively engaging potential customers and showcasing banking products.

As they approached a compound, he spotted a small pharmacy near the entrance. He recalled an earlier conversation with the pharmacist from last year, but unfortunately, he hadn’t managed to secure her as a client.

Back then, she lacked the necessary documents to open an account. After falling ill, the relationship manager didn't follow up on his recovery.

His only attempt—a brief phone call—went unanswered, leading him to pivot toward other prospects. This visit stirred a hint of recognition from the pharmacist, who soon recalled their previous discussion.

However, she expressed regret, explaining that she had already opened an account with a different bank.

Despite their best efforts to highlight the benefits of choosing their services, she firmly stated she didn’t require an additional account.

Feeling disappointed, they reluctantly walked away, but not without recognizing the importance of persistent engagement.

Where Things Went Wrong:
❌ Delayed Follow-Up: He failed to reconnect promptly after recovering.

❌ Limited Communication: Only one follow-up call was made without exploring other options (text, in-person visit, or email).

❌ Neglected a Warm Lead: He shifted focus instead of nurturing a promising prospect.

What Should Have Been Done:
✅ Quick Follow-Up: Reaching out promptly would have kept the conversation alive.

✅ Multi-Channel Communication: Using different methods (calls, texts, visits) to stay connected.

✅ Consistent Engagement: Regular check-ins could have built trust and maintained interest.
