things I'd tell my 20-yr-old self about leading worship if I could go back a couple of decades....

🤍use your God-given gifts with confidence and humility - when I started out I didn't feel adequate (and sometimes still don't!)- lean into your gifts with confidence but knowing He gave them to you and they're yours to steward

🤍lifting others up doesn't diminish your gift or calling; encourage others and remember you're not competing against one another for a spot on the platform

🤍help your face convey the warmth and passion you feel in your heart - I'm a naturally focused and intense person, paired with hearing loss, which means I'm always focusing harder to make sure my tone and pitch are where they should be. Amidst that, I have to remember to SMILE outwardly when leading worship

🤍the big screens and JIB (camera that gets right up next to you onstage) can be a distraction and can consume your thoughts about how you look on the "jumbotron"-- learn to ignore them and stay focused on the main thing - honoring and serving the Lord with your gifts!

🤍 showing up with a heart prepared for worship out of the overflow of your personal worship is more important than having the most talent in the room

🤍be a good steward of every opportunity, show up prepared, don't take this season of leading for granted. There was a season where I stepped away from full-time ministry and amidst working in other industries, life challenges and family, there were 14 yrs where I did not lead worship. Serving the past 2.5 years has been all that sweeter realizing it's a season not to be taken for granted

🤍stay teachable. Leadership may challenge you to do something differently, not because you've done something wrong but they may see potential you didn't know you had. Case in point- I sang as an alto for many years. Now, I sing regularly as a soprano and was chosen to sing the highest soprano piece of my life this past Christmas; it grew me in ways that now I can see I am capable of a larger range than I realized.

Happy birthday to the one my heart loves 🥰 my bestest friend and lifelong boyfriend, my husband @mrholisticmadeeasy

You are our family's steadfast rock, our fun maker, our grill master, our favorite road tripper, my favorite ideas man and innovator, my favorite person to walk the beach with and watch sunsets with, to quote movies with, to laugh, cry and pray with. Thank you for being such a wonderful and loving (and patient) husband and father. I love you so very much, my honey, and praying God's blessings all over your life this year!

I have two volunteer sunflowers growing out back right now.... And they're about to pop open. Even though their petals have not yet opened up, I have been amazed at the beauty and vitality they've already shown me. They shift the direction of their heads to receive sunshine throughout the day, starting in the morning toward the east, upwards in the heat of the day, and then angled toward the west in the evening. 🌻 It's amazing to see! They know their Source of life and energy!

I was reminded this morning of a couple of passages of Scripture when watering these beauties --

Philippians 1:6 NIV-
"being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."

- just as these lovely sunflowers will continue to grow and eventually bloom open to full beauty, God has called us to confidently lean in to the knowledge that He too will finish what He's started in us; God's not done with us yet! ☺️

Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV-
"He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end."

- there is a season for growth (which a lot of times is hard, messy, and not beautiful), and there is a season for beauty- and I believe that beauty is when we've reached and fulfilled the purpose for which God has called us- both in shorter projects and in fulfilling our life long mission!

So take heart if you're in a growing season - He will continue the good work in you until it's completed, and He makes everything beautiful in its time! 🤍 taken in Murfreesboro, TN by @holisticmadeeasy

We loved having @holisticmadeeasy for the conversation you find in Episode 85: The Beauty & the Mess of the Tapestry with Adrienne Neale. It’s a wonderfully insightful conversation and a testimony of how God works through the details of our lives to make something beautiful.

Here’s a recap of a few of our favorite moments:
1. Am I letting God down? Am I letting my
family legacy down?

2. When I think about the Church, I think about a tapestry. You look at the front and it’s beautiful, but the back is a tangled mess.

3. God is there to hold you in the broken pieces until you feel healed and whole.

4. An empty vessel can’t give. Don’t let your family get your leftovers!

5. He serves at the church, but he is a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

PK family we love you. Pastors and Leaders leading the Church currently, we are hopeful. May these conversations heal, correct and most of all testify God is faithful, even when.

“There was a circumstance of somebody volunteering within the church that I was in a relationship with as a late teenager, and saw this young man serving on the platform, and his family was part of the ministry. I began to date him, and it quickly turned very, very south, very abusive. You were kinda confused as why are they in positions of leadership and visibility if this is what happens behind the scenes? Yes, he serves at the church, but he is a wolf in sheep’s clothing…I’m thankful for the healing that God has placed in my life since then. It definitely recalibrated my expectations for who I wanted to have in my life, who I wanted to date, who I ultimately wanted to marry.” @holisticmadeeasy

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY to all the Fathers of PK’s out there. We look up to you more than you’d ever know. We are proud to be yours and grateful for the ways you include us in the ministry work that you do and give us a front row seat to see the broken become beautiful. We loved this memory from @holisticmadeeasy

“I remember as a little girl, going to the church office with my dad, and I loved it. I got to tag along with my daddy, you know? He taught me how to answer phones, make copies and helping people. But I also remember riding in the car with him to do hospital visits, to go to nursing homes, to visit and pray with people. I remember attending my first funeral and visitation hours as a little girl. I saw so many weddings, counseling sessions with people, and at a very young age, I understood death, I think in a depth that a lot of kids really weren’t aware of.. When we moved to South Florida to a larger church, that’s how people associated me, as, “Oh, you’re Pastor Steve’s daughter. And I wore that with, you know, a daughter’s respect and pride because he’s an amazing person, minister and pastor.”
