Our son Artie is dyslexic, and while it is challenging at times for him, we’re focusing on the unique skills he is developing as a result of his dyslexic thinking. Skills like lateral thinking, and creative problem-solving. What makes it harder is that he’s stuck in an education system that doesn’t make enough allowances for neurodiversity. We’re trying to remind Artie that spelling and writing doesn’t matter so much in the real world anymore - especially in the digital world. We’re also reminding him and his sisters that there are plenty of other skills that are more important! Artie put it perfectly in one piece of homework from this term when he wrote: “My Grandad was told he was stoopid 4 having dislexia, but he battild frow to be-come a super star.” This made me smile so much - althought I bet his teacher wished he’d written a little bit more! At the end of the day, I really believe that dyslexia is a superpower, and I just hope all young people at school learn to see it that way. It’s incredible to realise that 20% to 40% of entrepreneurs may be dyslexic. And even more inspiring to see @madebydyslexia’s Intelligence 5.0 report find that Dyslexic Thinking skills are the most in demand skills in every job, across all nine major job sectors, globally.I really hope that Artie will always view dyslexia as a strength and a positive point of difference in his life. At @virgin, we’ve been challenging the status quo and changing business for good for over 50 years. I’m thrilled to say that we’ve also changed our articles of association – which dictate the rules about how a company is run – to ensure they work for all stakeholders, instead of just shareholders. This means prioritising people and planet, instead of just profit. 👏🏽We’ve always acted this way, but changing our articles makes it official, and will hopefully inspire other businesses to do the same. This decision was spurred on by the brilliant @betterbusinessact campaign – which is seeking an amendment to Section 172 of the UK’s Companies Act to ensure that shareholder interest is advanced alongside the interests of wider society and the environment. We’re proud signatories of the Better Business Act and I would highly recommend all businesses check out the campaign and get involved.Alongside changing our articles and supporting the Better Business Act, we’ve also introduced a purpose filter for decision-making. If the decision or proposal doesn’t make it through the filter and completely align with our purpose, we ditch it. By embracing the filter over the last twelve months, I’ve watched all our teams increasingly question the impact a decision will have on all stakeholders including any potential negative impacts on the earth and wider communities.I’m so proud of these steps we’ve taken to really ensure we’re being a force for good in the world, and I’m excited to see where it leads us! Today is Better Business Act Day, and it’s a campaign I’m proud to say Virgin has supported from the very beginning. At @Virgin, we’ve always believed in turning shareholder primacy on its head. Feeling giddy with excitement that our gorgeous dog Oreo has had puppies, and what a surprise it was!When we had her scanned, we were told to expect 6 puppies… but they just kept on coming. We are now the very proud and slightly sleep-deprived humans of 9 healthy, beautiful, tiny puppies.Oreo has taken to motherhood like a total superstar. We are all completely in love and spending far too much time staring at them. Pure bliss! by @holly_branson

These words from @mcuban really resonated with me! AI isn’t something we should be stepping back from. It is something we should be leaning into, learning fast, and using with real curiosity. But the opportunity is not simply to let AI do the work for us. It is to use it in a way that helps us think better, move faster, ask sharper questions, and unlock ideas or possibilities that may not have been within reach before. For me, the real magic happens when AI becomes a partner in our thinking, but not a replacement for it.That means learning how to prompt well, challenging the outputs and using AI to stretch our thinking, not shrink it.Businesses have a big role to play here. We need to give people the confidence, tools and permission to experiment with AI in ways that support their growth and development. Not just to improve efficiency, but to help people do better work and feel more purposeful in it. This is one of the biggest opportunities in front of us. Virgin Media O2 is a brilliant example of how big businesses can be a force for good. Check out some of the impact they’ve made in recent years: • The business reduced its Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions 63% against its 2020 baseline. 🍀• Tripled its goal to prevent 20 million tonnes of carbon emissions entering Earth’s atmosphere with 61.8 million tonnes of carbon avoided in total. 🌍• Encouraged more than 12 million consumers to carry out ‘circular actions’, such as recycling or buying refurbished devices – well ahead of its 10 million goal.♻️• Helped more than one million people experiencing hardship get online as part of its efforts to tackle digital exclusion. 🛜 Incredible and inspiring work! A tiny snapshot of some of the ways @Virgin is making the world a more inclusive place: • @VirginStartUp funding an equal number of male and female founders, challenging the statistic that only 20% of start-up funding in the UK goes to women • @VirginMoney bringing specialist dementia clinics to its branches shows how inclusion can be tangible • All @VirginHotels’ properties have Autism Double-Checked certification: making travel less stressful for autistic people and their families • @VirginAustralia’s Try Before You Fly programme is also making travel more accessible and enjoyable for people with disabilities and neurodiversity.
