Pondering is a non-negotiable
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
So interesting to think I know young Holly so well and she had no idea what her future self would be like. A one-way Stranger.

I often fast forward to my 60 yr old self and think she’ll be doing the same reflecting. The same way I am SO grateful to my younger self for getting me where I am, I try to remind myself I live for me today, and for all versions of her.

Maybe in 30 years (if Instagram still exists…if *I* still exist) I can look back on something like this with the same appreciation for all my current naïveté. <3 by @hollydicecco

was chatting with a new friend/fellow creative @heyitskylen about how regimented life is these days, which I think would throw young holl for a loop.

1.) timeblocking. Instead of “work on creative projects for half the day” or whenever I am “feeling it,” my creative time is set in chunks of a 2-3 hours with specific tasks. Absolute game changer.

2.) prioritizing sleep. What even WAS sleep to a 22 yr-old?! Skipping a party or letsbehonest binge drinking for the sake of protecting creative energy was in-con-ceiv-able. Now it’s 8 hrs or BUST

3.) everything I experience has potential for creation. The way I see a typical landscape/still life/moment now feels more like “oooh this would make a killer painting.” I love living this way & it’s definitely something I’ve noticed I didn’t always have.

4.) I’m more intentional with my time. What used to be spent making sure everyone liked me (more on that another time) or avoiding FOMO, is likely now used for recovery & creative exploration. I. Love. It.

5.) introspecting x1000. When I think of young Holly, yes I love her, AND she often observed life happening around her rather than engaged with it. I feel now I have so much more agency as to what my life will look like, and I owe a lot of that to staying curious about myself and recognizing my inner power.

Thanks for reading! Hugging ‘lil me for getting me here, and also making sure she now takes sleep and hydration more seriously…

Over the last few years, I have found myself repeating the phrase, “well I ain’t goin’ to be a cool & wise old lady by leading an easy life.”

& as this summer comes to a close, I reflect on how my capacity to hold the full range of emotions (sometimes all at once) has been stretched. I’ve been…tested.

Stress level at a *current* all-time high as I swim in the deep end of the unknown, although I think we are all doing that whether we acknowledge it or not.

My empathy, compassion, & patience: tested via lots & lots of practice, sometimes imperfectly & always a challenge. At the same time, it’s as if the magnitude of my grounding pain & grief are directly proportional to my most invigorating, ecstatic joys.

I’ve witnessed so many of my people enter into new chapters alongside the love of their life. Got to cheer on my most inspiring sisters & brothers reach new heights. Felt the embrace of my soul people whom I can 100% fully express myself around. I painted bigger and more boldly than ever, a new love affair born in nerve-wracking audacity.

I’m finally learning to lean in to the identity of a creator (work in progress).

Especially when we are all confronted with the enigma of what makes human consciousness special, it just feels like the most profound privilege to have the ability to feel so fully, or really at all.

Each new uncomfortable or blissful stretch of my capacity to hold more in my heart, my soul, my dreams, feels like a gift I do not intend on taking for granted.

Not clouds like my typical subjects, but I figured these experiments in landscape deserved a spot on the grid!

Like painting portraits of people, learning to use color and shape to express a place is a surefire way to build skill. I’ve never been formally educated as a painter but like to think the best way to learn is by doing (lots of trial LOTS of error). And really, any kind of experimentation is going to make me a better artist, like in life hey

It’s also easy to feel so very lucky to live in the PNW where we are in no short supply of inspiring places. One of these spots was a huge part of why I moved here in the first place! taken in Oregon by @hollydicecco

A lot goes on internally whenever I share my art on here, but as soon as I zoom out I am reminded how grateful I am that other artists are constantly inspiring me through socials and what a gift that is. Then my aim becomes being a part of that ripple.

To me it is taking the responsibility to provide what fills the gaps of all that we want out of life.

If what I want is more connection, deeper understanding, & more creative conversations, I’m not going to get there by keeping the spark to myself where it would grow weaker anyway.

I’m not fully there yet but I want to thank anyone who has been along this journey of sharing and becoming, I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for unyielding support from cloud/painting/holly lovers, and I mean that <3

Oh, and..uh..I have a print sale this weekend and waitlisters get first dibs on these 4 works I just completed, so you should sign up at the link in bio…(still working on the putting-yourself-out-there part) taken in Bend, Oregon by @hollydicecco
