Working with flax fibres… how amazing are these gorgeous fronds!!!! by @hollyhowman

Decided to face my fears and do an ‘online art workshop’, just for the sheer fun of it!! Sudden surgery on my right arm prompted me to ‘practise what I preach’ to my pupils and use my left hand. Altho today I got so lost in painting that I reverted to my right hand ( oops) How wonderful it feels to be a pupil again and being led by a wonderful teacher Gabbie @artofflow_ Still have another day to go but its just so much fun and everyone so lovely and supportive. No experience necessary just the call to be brave and face ones fears, cos they never are as bad as they seem!!! ♥️ #artofflow by @hollyhowman

Meet Holly Howman Evans!
Holly is an artist based on Makorori Beach, Gisborne. She is also a host for this year’s She Shed.

Working with natural fibres Holly creates stunning pieces of art. She is also well known for her stunning stingrays, whales and many other creatures she creates with clay!

We visited Holly in her She Shed as she walked us through her creative process and beautiful garden.

Don’t forget to give Holly a follow on @hollyhowman if you love supporting New Zealand

There is a profound, cyclical beauty in returning to painting, especially when guided by the resonant voices of old poets and the timeless wisdom of Māori expression. Bridging ancestral language with visual art allows you to paint not just scenes, but philosophies.

(The words of William Blake come to my mind here)

‘THE WINDS THAT BLOW..’.
.
Who has seen the wind?
Neither I nor you.
But when the leaves hang trembling,
The wind is passing through.
Who has seen the wind?
Neither you nor I.
But when the trees bow down their heads,
The wind is passing by.

I love hearing the journey of how one feels, whilst pondering an artwork of mine! .
This paintings ‘forever home’, is in Scotland now ♥️ .

“ Whatever it is, it is.
It is in motion, it is broken but alive and coming in to land. Pondering, wondering, wandering, living and alive. Blending into its own world of colour. Hidden, but not. Advancing, moving forward, leaving the broken behind.” by @hollyhowman
