16 years of loving and being loved by you. Moriah, I could not have dreamed of a better dog than you. I will miss you for the rest of my life. Being chosen by you that one day on the side of the road is the best thing that has ever happened to me. You saved my life that day and many days since then. I’ve held these photos close to my heart for that past 10 years. I was always waiting for the perfect time to share them. I’ve come to realize now is the perfect time. Now is the perfect time to put yourself out there, to take the risk, to tell people you love them. This trip changed my life, but not in the ways I thought it would. What I learned most was how to face fear. The years after this trip have been extremely difficult. And as much as I’ve wished certain things would have not happened I have learned who I am and what I’m capable of. I’ve learned to accept myself. I’ve learned that my self worth does not lie in the the lines I’ve skied or the mountains I’ve climbed. My value lies in the relationships I’ve built and the promises I keep to myself. Sometimes those promises are hard to keep, especially when they are painful. I have faced a lot of fear, not always by choice but by circumstance. And through fear we find courage. Courage is not the absence of fear, but the acceptance of it and moving forward anyway.
