AT THE TABLE

I’ve been planning something for a long time now.

Something born from a personal memory and driven by my passion for art, by friendships, and by the people who make Sheffield and the world such a beautiful place to be.

Thanks to @flynn_kieran ,I’ve decided to donate all proceeds to @sheffchildrenshospitalcharity .

Thanks to @saraprinslooart for helping me bring this to life.

Thanks to all the artists for participating.

Thanks to @studio_jumble for hosting the upcoming event, and thanks to @pina.sheffield to support me.

A follower, and now friend, recently got in touch to tell me about a charity project they were organising.

It was one of those ideas I immediately wanted to be involved with.

At the Table brings together more than 60 artists from Sheffield and around the world, each invited to design an original playing card in their own style. Together, the cards will form a limited-edition collector's poker deck celebrating art, community and collaboration.

Alongside the deck, a very special one-of-one collector's edition has been created: a handcrafted oak presentation box containing the complete deck and a set of beautiful handmade ceramic poker chips.

I was asked to create a bespoke mosaic for the piece, which has been mounted to the underside of the oak lid.

The complete collector's edition will be auctioned, with 100% of the profits from the project going to Sheffield Children's Hospital.

It's been a real pleasure to contribute a small part to something involving so many different makers, all working towards the same cause.

Follow @holy.giuda for details of the exhibition, project and upcoming auction.

I was asked to design the King of Spades for a massive artist charity collaboration, but I always view this character as someone a bit dark.

Look closely at the design. You see the crown? It represents the toxic urge for power. And between his teeth? Those are tiny hands of prisoners trying to escape. It’s a play on Pinocchio—but instead of his nose growing when he lies, it grows because he’s ready to devour his own people just to be king of all things.

I love giving my art a deeper concept. What do you think? Did I go too dark?
