POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Outlive Yourself was released 10 years ago today. An early production experiment by @zdeveblizga (- the heights he has reached since!- ), we recorded it in his East Lansing house basement starting in 2014; most of the instrumentals were handled entirely by the two of us save a few cameos from the amazing @autumn_leav3s_ ~~

HP has since expanded into a full band project, but during this time period it was fully in solo lo-fi mode and i feel this record probably exemplifies that era best

Listening back i am charmed by its ramshackle nature and how sonically the tracks have a certain propulsion that threatens repeatedly to go off the rails. There was an innocent excitement in picking up any ol instrument or percussive knick-knack from the basement floor and just letting it rip. Somehow the album sounds earthy and rooted despite the bitter and angst-laden subject matter. Put simply its a sound and style i wouldnt be able to reproduce now if i tried , which to me makes it feel unique and very time-and-place

“The Adults in the Room”,
or, a meditation on the banality of evil

I wrote the lyrics to this a few months back when i noticed a few ppl asking the very valid question : “where are all the current day anti-war songs?” figured i’d take a stab at one. idk when i’ll get around to a proper recording of it, so given its timeliness to the situation i figured I’d at least get a rudimentary performance of it out for now. an advance warning of rawness in theme & delivery, ye who enter here
