The numbers are impressive.
The women behind them are remarkable.

The future is calling, and the Holy Child Class of 2026 is more than ready.

The Chesapeake Bay provided more than an opportunity to explore a new environment; it gave our seventh graders the chance to learn by doing, embrace new challenges, and discover the rewards of working together. From muddy marshes to moonlit trails, every experience offered a new perspective on the remarkable ecosystem surrounding them. Most importantly, they returned with a deeper appreciation for the natural world, lasting memories, and an even stronger sense of community as a class. by @holychildrye

Our community gathered for All Souls’ Mass, celebrated by Rev. Linus Martz, OP, in remembrance of all the faithful departed.

In the Catholic Church, All Souls’ Day is a time to remember and pray for those who have died, honor their lives, and reaffirm our belief in the promise of eternal life. It is a day rooted in remembrance, hope, and the enduring connection we share with those who have gone before us.

We were especially grateful to welcome the special women in the lives of our freshmen and Middle School students, whose presence made this celebration even more meaningful.

We also proudly recognized 11 seniors who were installed as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, an important step in their faith journeys and a meaningful commitment to service within our community.
It was a meaningful morning that brought our community together in faith and reflection. by @holychildrye

The 7th grade traveled to the island of Port Isobel in the Chesapeake Bay, the largest estuary in North America. They set crab pots, went proggin’, marsh mucking, and night hiking, dredged for oysters, visited the Tangier History Museum, watched the sun rise next to a full moon, cooked their own meals, and assembled Smith Island cakes, the state dessert of Maryland. During this three-day, two-night adventure, the seventh grade strengthened their bonds and came together as a class.

Inspirational Chesapeake Bay Foundation educators Soorya, Quinn, Olivia, Evelyn, and Adam brought the ecology of the Bay to life for our students. Also, big thanks to Captains Terry and Thomas, Adam of the Tangier History Museum, County Coach bus driver Fred, and Ms. Koehler for her administrative support. @cbf_learnoutside by @holychildrye

Halloween festivities continued with our annual parades and the much-anticipated Masked Singer performance! Students showed off their incredible costumes, while our mystery performers took to the stage and kept the audience guessing. It was a fun-filled celebration of Halloween creativity, school spirit, and a few surprises along the way! by @holychildrye

A little spooky, a lot of spirit, and totally over-the-top! Halloween brought out the best in our Holy Child community, with students showing up in truly amazing, creative costumes. Meanwhile, our faculty and staff turned back the clock and fully embraced the 80s, bringing big hair, bold looks, and plenty of retro flair to the festivities!

From frightfully fun to totally tubular, the day was filled with Halloween magic, laughter, and plenty of tricks and treats. What a hauntingly good time! 👻 by @holychildrye

Meet the Mascots!

We’re kicking off our Meet the Mascot series with Connie the Gryphon from @holychildrye.

Chosen as the school’s mascot in the 1980s, Connie represents the strength and pride shared by students, faculty, and alumni.

Every Holy Child school has its own traditions, symbols, and school spirit, and we’re celebrating one of the most recognizable parts of each community: its mascot!

From dragons to gryphons and beyond, each mascot has a story to tell and a special place in the heart of its school.

Stay tuned to meet more mascots from across our Holy Child Schools network! by @holychildrye

The Advanced Humanities Institute went out on our first fieldwork trip of the year, heading to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Scholars explored several wings of the museum, from Greek and Roman galleries to Oceania and the Americas, as well as the Arts of Asia and the Arts of Arab Lands.

Our discussions featured questions of naturalism vs. symbolic representation, technical craftsmanship, philosophical reflection, and more. Toward the end of our time at the Met, students set out in small groups to creatively respond to artworks. From sketches to poetry, students engaged with complex perspectives, themes, and representational choices in eloquent and moving ways.

Ever wonder what makes our faculty and staff who they are beyond the classroom and the school day?

We’re giving you a peek behind the scenes with a new series of short, fun Q&As featuring the people who make Holy Child such a special place. From favorite things to unexpected fun facts, you might be surprised by what you learn!

First up: our Head of School, Colleen Pettus! Our students ask the questions, she shares the answers, and you’re invited to get to know her a little better.
Because the people behind Holy Child are just as special as the community they inspire. Stay tuned for more!

We are excited to announce the launch of Holy Child Model United Nations (SHCMUN), an inaugural conference led by our students with guidance from Nithya Prakash, History Faculty. The conference will bring local delegates together for a day of diplomacy, debate, collaboration, and creative problem-solving.

Join us on December 6, 2026, as students step into the roles of diplomats, tackle complex global and historical issues, and work together to develop solutions. From addressing human trafficking to exploring a fictional post-rebellion world and the American pre-revolutionary crisis, delegates will have the opportunity to think critically, advocate for their ideas, and engage with diverse perspectives.

We are proud of our students for bringing this exciting initiative to life and creating opportunities for young leaders to make their voices heard.

Ready to take part? Register today! Visit www.shcmun.com to learn more about the conference, explore the committees, and secure your spot. by @holychildrye

Our fifth-grade explorers stepped into the world of art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where centuries of creativity, culture, and history came together under one roof. From observing remarkable works to discovering the stories behind them, students experienced firsthand how art can spark curiosity, broaden perspectives, and bring learning to life. An unforgettable day of exploration beyond the classroom!
