I’ve felt the nudge to share this for a while now but never stopped to write it out. After this weekend I knew it was time to share it.

Not something that I’ve openly talked about except to the people close to me but about 6 months ago I was officially laid off. Right after that while out on a run someone asked me a question that stuck with me:

“If money wasn’t an issue, what would you do?”

The truth was… I didn’t know.

For the last 14 years, all I’d known was work—12 hour days, night shifts, a lot of traveling out of state. I had never really stopped to ask what I felt called to build.

That question bothered me for a couple months.

Then one day, while alone on a run, it hit me. Growing up skating and being around the music and tattoo scene, I’d always dreamed of creating a brand. I was never good at skating, I didn’t play an instrument, and I wasn’t an artist. But now, my life looked different. Jesus had changed my priorities. My faith comes first, then my family, and then running.

After prayer and talking with my wife and a few close friends that I run with, I felt like it was time to take a step of faith. I had no idea what would come of it, but I knew I could trust God with the outcome.

Seeing Holy Grit at its very first pop-up this weekend was unreal. Sharing my testimony with strangers, every person I saw repping my gear, every word of encouragement reminded me that God can do far more than we expect when we’re willing to simply be obedient.

Whether Holy Grit becomes something big or stays something small, my prayer is the same: 1. I would not forget why I started this. And 2. it would point people to Jesus and encourage them to live out their faith with perseverance.

Thank you to everyone who’s been part of this journey so far.

“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” — Proverbs 16:3

Holy Grit isn’t self-reliance.

We train hard. We stay disciplined. We persevere.

But our ultimate confidence isn’t in our own toughness.

Our strength comes from Him. by @holygrit.co

A storm doesn’t automatically mean you’re on the wrong path.

Sometimes faith is continuing to trust Christ while the storm is still raging.

I sometimes question what I’m doing and where I’m at in my life.

Running and trying to build a brand while homeschooling my girls, and stepping into to things I never thought of doing that will stretch and grow me.

But then there’s these little moments, things that happen, and conversations that are had that remind me that I don’t need to know every detail of His plan for my life. I just need to keep showing up, being obedient, and trust God when I can’t see what’s ahead.

And once I realized that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be, I found peace.

“The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.”

There are runs where I feel completely spent, even the easy runs feel hard, but then I’m reminded that I don’t have to rely on my own strength.

“But those who trust in the LORD will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not become weary, they will walk and not faint.” -Isaiah‬ ‭40‬:‭31‬

Your feelings are real, but they were never meant to lead your life.

Following Jesus sometimes means choosing obedience when everything in you wants the easier way.
