Pokémon Green with postcard

The first Pokémon item ever released

The sub-grades are 85 for the box, 85+ for the cartridge, and 80 for the manual; on the Unified scale, it is 9.2/9.4/8.5

The manual let it down—which I think is the easiest part to fix—so I’ll eventually send it in again with a better manual to bump up the grade.

Pocket Monsters Midori

The game where it all begins.

Everything that is the most important franchise in history starts here, in the first Pokémon game.

Pokémon Green is exclusive to Japan (the versions released outside of Japan are based on Pokémon Blue). It also has unique sprites never seen in other games, and these are also the oldest (the images from the 1995 magazines, Spaceworld, etc., come from Green).

Obtaining an unopened copy is extremely difficult, and the chances of being scammed are very high. There are only about 30 graded unopened copies.

💥 The Origins of Pokémon

The items in this photo form the core of Pokémon’s early days.

Famitsu, December 1, 1995.
Released around November 15, 1995.

The most renowned video game magazine (where Satoshi Tajiri even worked before founding Game Freak) holds a great honor. Within its pages is a short report on the games that were set to be featured at Spaceworld ’95, as they held the license to cover the event.

Among them is an image of a game unknown at the time: “Pocket Monsters AKA /Midori.” This is the first image of these games ever seen. And therefore, the first public appearance of Pokémon—aside from internal Game Freak materials we know about thanks to massive hacks.

Pokémon was born as a video game.

Famitsu, December 15, 1998
On the market around December 1, 1995.

This page features a brief review of the Spaceworld games; within them... presumably lies the first public appearance of Pikachu and Charmander.
Pocket Monsters AKA and Midori

These games are the first Pokémon merchandise ever released—and perhaps even the first Pokémon items ever created—since their production dates back to November 1995.

This is the very first production run ever released, featuring the long barcode.

They also include that rare postcard. That postcard was a questionnaire used to enter a contest, and it was only included with the games until March 1996.

Considering that Pokémon was released on February 27, 1996, and that it initially sold far less than expected (it wasn’t until the discovery of Mew that it took off), we are looking at a true relic, steeped in history and very rare to find.

After the successful launch of the Pokémon franchise, Nintendo wanted to continue the saga with Pokémon 2. In 1997 the famous spaceworld demo was presented to the public (red and green were presented in the same fair in 1995).

Those games, fortunately, did not reach our hands, and later, in 1999 would arrive, the ones that for many are the best games of the franchise. 16 medals. Battle against Red. Red Gyarados. Shinys. And magnificent Pokémon designs (Lugia, Umbreon, Suicune, Tyranitar...).

The best for old school gamers. History of video games.
