Let’s go shopping for art supplies 🎨

because if you can spend hours getting lost in an art store, even if you don’t buy a single thing, then you might be a Passionista.

A creative Jewish woman who notices beauty.

Who gets ideas at inconvenient times.

Who feels more like herself when her hands are making something.

Who knows that a new notebook can cause an unreasonable amount of happiness.

Of course, the art supplies are not the point.

The point is that little spark you feel when you see something and immediately think:

Wait. I could make something with that.

This is your permission to treat yourself to an artist’s date at the art store.

And now I just have to know What’s your favorite kind of art supplies?

I’ll bet you can guess that you can always find me in the pen aisle.

Feeling annoyed by someone?
It helps to remember that everyone is struggling with something.

Give everyone the benefit of the doubt.
You don’t know their struggle.

Ask yourself:
How would I be able to handle this challenge?
How could I fix this in myself?

My prayer:
Creator of all souls, help me see the good in everyone!

The hospitality in Crown Heights is unreal.

Hosting and feeding thousands of guests from around the world through a full month of holidays.

Dozens and dozens of meals.

Some women go to sleep at 4:30 in the morning after a night of cooking and baking.

Others get up at 4:30 before a full day of work, kids, and grandkids.

So much love goes into all of that food - even when they can barely stand on their feet.

Mommy, Bubby, Alter Bubby, shvigger.
We see you.
We thank you.
And we love you so much!

Crown Heights is the place to be to immerse in Moshiach energy. These spinners are absolutely mesmerizing.

But of course, flyers, pins, and stickers and spinners are just reminders. The real Moshiach energy is intensifying Torah, mitzvahs, prayer and especially acts of kindness.

It’s in the joyful, alive, immersive experience inside 770 and your local Chabad House. Dip into it!

Crown Heights in Tishrei is really a kaleidoscope of spiritual experiences - even just walking up Kingston Ave. on an ordinary Wednesday.

Except in Crown Heights there’s no such thing as ordinary. As the Baal Shem Tov teaches, every moment, in everything that happens, there is a lesson and an opportunity to serve G-d.

In this season everyone is rushing to get ready for Sukkot. The kids are snatching a few days in school in between holidays. The men are busy building sukkahs and the women shopping and cooking dozens of meals for thousands of guests. That’s not an exaggeration!

And the Rubashkin family is feeding thousands of guests in what might be the largest sukkah in the world!

It’s hard to describe what it’s like to pray squished together with thousands of Lubavitchers on Yom Kippur in 770 - standing room only!

Especially because I prayed alone for many years when I lived in the redwoods of Northern California. I was the only one keeping Shabbat. The closest shul was 285 miles away!

Beneath the seriousness of the day and the difficulty of fasting, there’s a pulsating joy that bursts forth in the singing of the prayers - especially the prayers that remind Hashem and us how close we really are and how much we love each other.

And just as we think we can’t make it through the fast, we sing the rousing Napoleon’s march, marking our victory over evil forces without and within.

Fun fact. The girls in the back of the ladies section (upstairs and far from the men) sing beautifully!

That little blue camping stool is my seat in 770 that Baruch Hashem I’ve been using for the last 20 years. Time to pack it away for another year! And now on to Sukkot…

Come along with me to Crown Heights, Brooklyn, the headquarters of the Chabad Lubavitch movement.

The day before Yom Kippur is a very special time to prepare. People are giving a lot of charity - so much Tzedakah! Praying, connecting, making sure they have shoes that are not leather, and getting their Yom Kippur seats and prayer books ready to spend 25 hours fasting and praying.

That little blue camping stool is my seat in 770 that Baruch Hashem I’ve been using for the last 20 years.

Together we take responsibility for where we went wrong during the year and ask our Father, our King to forgive us and remember how much he cherishes us.

The night before is the ritual of kaparos. We transfer our sins to chickens or money to be given to the poor, to begin our long day of prayer with a fresh slate.

Then, in the morning, we each dip in the mikvah, the purifying waters to purify our bodies.

I had the wonderful privilege of going to our holy Rebbe’s mikvah, which displays the red chair he used.

And those paper slippers? If you know you know. 😊

Well, Rosh Hashanah IS coming, but that doesn’t mean I can’t work on my creative pursuits in between the brisket and the kugel. 🍎🍯

and honestly, I had so much fun with my grandkids setting this video up. Trends come and go, but memories are forever 💕

I can’t show you the main events because we don’t use devices on the holy days, but with G-d’s help, I’m going to show you the interstices, the spaces in between where the wonderful holiness filters into the everyday ordinary extraordinary.
