My little study is long and narrow, but with wisteria, grass and flowers practically poking through the window, it never feels small. When the windows are open, it feels as though the garden becomes part of the room. 🤎

As Alan Rickman said, "Give me a window and I'll stare out it."

I designed the joinery to maximise every inch of space, fitting in everything I needed without sacrificing the feeling of calm. The paintwork and textiles were chosen to complement the ever-changing colours of the garden beyond.

Tiny rooms are a wonderful excuse to live closely with the things you love 😍. Shelves filled with books, pictures and treasured finds make the space feel personal, while generous cupboards and drawers hide away the practical necessities of work and life.

‘To plant a garden is to paint a picture of a future you want to live in’ wrote Gertrude Jekyll, herself an interior designer before failing eyesight drove her to work outside. Together with Edwin Lutyens she created homes and gardens which felt as though they had grown together naturally out of the landscape and gradually over time.

A living painting, never static - the garden is the first place I look to when considering how to bring a home to life. Working on this Grade II listed Arts and Crafts house I drew on the colours and textures of the beautiful gardens and landscape outside - restoring the connection between the house and the surrounding garden as its original architects had intended.

Delighted to have written about how the garden and nature are at the heart of my approach for @houseandgardenuk. Thank you @ginnyemily and @interiorseditor.
